Bayou Barn's white chocolate bread pudding with pecan praline sauce won the popular vote last night as the favorite of the several dozen desserts served at the America's Hometown Sweets kickoff party for FOODFEST 2014. I don't particularly like white chocolate, but this was swoonworthy, utterly transcendent, the ultimate Louisiana bread pudding. A few other highlights of the evening were...

Creole Creamery dark chocolate ice cream topped with caramel and fleur du sel

Cafe Reconcile strawberry shortcake

cannoli from Angelo Brocato

Antoine's legendary baked Alaska

truly intoxicating double chocolate moonshine cake and rum cake from Virginia's Red Truck Bakery

the world's most wonderful hard candy made by my friend and neighbor, Torie Burke

of course, sugar-dusted hot beignets from Morning Call

do-it-yourself S'mores

and apple pie from California's Julian Pie Co.

and so, so much more! Here is a picture of the evening's sponsor, SWERVE, giving the BEST DESSERT award to the women from the Bayou Barn:
