Changes

As many of you will notice, we have updated the home page.  Our purpose was to reduce the amount of time it takes to catch up on the latest Roadfood activity while making it inviting/appealing to first-timers.  Restaurant review write-ups are shown in their entirety along with a photo, so users can read and visualize the latest places without having to jump around to different pages.  We will also be highlighting interesting threads on the discussion forum, eating tours, and recipes.

Some of the specific updates include:

  1. The RoadfoodDigest.com URL has been decommissioned and integrated directly into the home page.  We created a filter so users can see “Only Digest Post,” and you should see more content in the forthcoming days.
  2. The visibility of the restaurant proximity search form has been improved
  3. The proximity search results include a map for better geographic orientation
  4. The main navigation Digest has been replaced with "Eating Tours" - We will be expanding this functionality in future months so people can post graphically rich trip reports.
  5. The only piece removed from the new layout is the latest Roadfood Professionals conversations, and we are already working on a remedy.

The Roadfood Team has been usability testing the new layout for a couple of weeks.  We all agreed it takes a couple days to adjust, but we are loving the change now.

We hope you enjoy, and feel free to pass along feedback directly on this post (also a new feature.)

Bad Bad ... I don't want to read all those reviews. They could have been linked without taking all the space. A list with small pic would have done what you needed. The latest post in the Professional & Hot Dog forums are missing. Now I'll just go to the forums page and click latest or last post and skip the front page.

Ed, I think that makes sense. If you don't like the reviews, it is easier to jump directly to the forums.

I'm really sorry you had to work on Thanksgiving to do all of this.

Seriously, I like the new look very much.

Showing the review write-ups in their entirety on the homepage requires scrolling down to see if one is interested in a particular write-up. The old layout of listing them allowed for quick perusal (I would look at location) , and if desired, click on a selection. Thought the old format was quicker.

Seriously, I DON"T LIKE THE NEW LOOK!

But then again, I suppose I'll get used it as I did to the last big change.

Too much time on your hands? Couldn't leave well enough alone? What is it with you people who feel you constantly have to change things? People get used to something, it works well, and you change it. Not just you, a ton of websites do this, and it's never a change for the better. Give it a rest and go back to what it was.

The new restaurant review format is terrible! Now we have to scroll a significant distance to see if there is anything of any interest. I'm really getting tired of bbq and New Mexico etc. I am from Ct as are the Sterns, and like more local reviews. Learn from Chowhounds with their regional boards. You really can't cover the entire US and keep everybody happy so consider breaking the areas down.

I love the new format.....it is now really about ROADFOOD.

Do my eyes deceive me? Has the hotdog cart menace finally been exorcised from the home page? If so -- GREAT WORK!!! LOVE IT!!

Wow go away for the week of Thanksgiving and comeback to the new look. At first glance I was in shock, but after looking over the new front page look I LIKE IT!! Stephen, you were bored with Thanksgiving so you decided to work instead? :-)
