Day two of the Roadfood Tour of Connecticut began as day one did, in the hotel lobby for doughnuts. As far as we're concerned, these are the best doughnuts on the planet. They come from Dottie's Diner in Woodbury (see the Roadfood.com review), and these sinkers are among the least sexy you'll ever see. There's no gaudy, multi-colored window dressing here. The plain-as-pilgrims pastries taste like real food, and even when they are covered in cinnamon and sugar or blanketed with thick chocolate, they perfectly embody the stolid, no-nonsense New England character. If you appreciate the steak more than the sizzle, these are for you.
Chris: I can't agree with you more, Bruce. Dottie's are my absolute favorites on the East coast, at least. They are perfect in every way. And I didn't get nearly enough on this morning, since I had to pace myself to have the appetite for the rest of the day!
