We knew the Julian Pie Company of Julian, CA is the place for world-class apple pie (and pies of all kinds), but we didn't realize that apple pie is a particular specialty of the town of Julian (see the Roadfood.com review of the Julian Pie Company branch in Santa Ysabel). The North County Times talks to the locals about the Julian Pie Company, Mom's Pie House, Apple Alley Bakery, and the Julian Candied Apple Pastry Company. Everyone has their own favorite but perhaps the publisher of the local paper said it best when asked for his opinion on the finest pie in town: "Whoever pays the advertising."
