We're sorry to report that The Olive Market, of Redding, CT, closed about three weeks ago. Here's owner Fernando Pereyra's farewell post from The Olive Market's Facebook page:

Dear customers, friends and family,

Thank you so much for joining us to celebrate this week at The Olive Market.

As many of you know, The Olive Market will be serving its last meal on Thursday, March 28.

Your years of patronage and support have meant the world to us, and we cannot thank you enough for making this adventure as fruitful and exciting as it has been.

We sincerely hope that our paths will cross again soon, and if not, please know that we will forever be grateful to you, our supporters, for making this experience such a great one.

Via con Dios,
Fernando & Team!

Michael Stern, in his review (which we'll archive tomorrow), said, "When we aren’t traveling around the U.S. eating, we are home in Georgetown, Connecticut, eating; and if we look a little more well-fed than usual these days, it’s thanks to a grocery / bistro / short-order sandwich shop called The Olive Market." Michael, do you have anything to add? We're inferring from the comments left by fans that the closure was a "new direction in life" choice, not a "business was off" necessity.

Fernando's partner, Bill, died a few years ago, and this was very much THEIR enterprise together. As to the specifics of why it closed now and what direction Fernando is going, I don't know. I, too, doubt that it was a strictly-business decision.
