1 more hood question

How much over lap should there be on a 36 " griddle hood ? would 42 be enough ? Have a change to pick up a nice custom made one I was wanting a 48 but for $400 less for the 42 That's the last thing on my to do list. Painted the trailer the last 2 days going to work on lettering in a few more.

    I think 6" is standard.

    6" overhang.... so 48" would do.
    I believe that the 6" overhang is national, but I would call a hood installer or fire suppression place locally and ask if that's what's required in Alaska.

    Health dept has nothing to do with it. Its from the IMC.
     
    507.12 Canopy size and location. The inside lower edge of canopy-type Type I and II commercial hoods shall overhang or extend a horizontal distance of not less than 6 inches (152 mm) beyond the edge of the top horizontal surface of the appliance on all open sides. The vertical distance between the front lower lip of the hood and such surface shall not exceed 4 feet (1219 mm).

    Exception:
    The hood shall be permitted to be flush with the outer edge of the cooking surface where the hood is closed to the appliance side by a noncombustible wall or panel.

    48" is correct and will pass our local HD as well.

    Just as Chefbuba has mentioned, I always thought any hood criteria would fall under the IMC ...that is IF it could even be effectively enforced by any authority.
     
    On this subject, has anyone here ever had an actual inspection of their hood or vent system inside a movable trailer, mobile kitchen, truck, etc? Could you please elaborate on what was inspected and by who in your area?  
     
    Regarding the IMC, my copy of the 2009 Scope and Administration specifically says what the code is used for.... "Section 101.2 Scope. This code shall regulate the design, installation, maintenance, alteration and inspection of mechanical systems that are permanently installed and utilized to provide control of environmental conditions and related processes within buildings."
     
    If it's not installed in a building I don't see it ever being enforced under IMC.

    Fire marshal here did not even want to inspect, all they wanted was a $60 license for my propane tanks.
    Have had a FM check the ansul tag at an event two times, other than that, nothing.
    When I had my B&M, initial inspection by fire, they measured the hood and appliances.
    I would rather follow the code, than run into a problem later down the road when someone did try to enforce the code.

    Thanks guys , I'm getting a 48 to be save. My fire marshal said he did not care as long as I have the proper fire extinguisher in the trailer. He said as long as I have no employees or customers in there I could do what I wanted
