We seem to be a sticky on the board . Thanks to the administrator .
The next few weeks will be buzzing with the tour so this is much appreciated .

For those getting on in Orange County NY , we will be picking up at the same location as past years , at the Harriman MTA Train Commuter lot of of Rt. 17 m . Time is 1000 am

For those north of NYC we usually have six to ten of us hop on there . It is convienently a few miles off of Rt. 87 (NYS Thruway at Harriman / Woodbury Commons / Monroe ) exit .

We will then travel to Galloping Hill Inn off of exit #138 of the Garden St. Pkwy to pick up the rest of the group and start the tour.

I've never driven up that way by myself, and I'd like to know when the best time is to get to Galloping Hill. I won't get lost - just afraid of traffic. How long does the bus sit, usually, before it takes off?

The bus will probably arrive at GHI around 1115 to 1130am . Many of the group arrive there at 1100am and enjoy the atmosphere and camraderie of fellow hot dog lovers.
Bus will be leaving GHI at high Noon or soonafter. That will give everyone sometime to enjoy the dogs , meet some old and new friends and discuss the tour.
So get to GHI anytime between 1100and Noon and you will be among friends and ready to go .

Don't worry about traffic. You will be coming north on the Parkway; everyone else is heading south to the Jersey Shore. It's very easy. Go north, get off exit 138, turn right, and the Galloping Hill Inn will be about a half mile on your left.

I've been on vacation and away this past week, which is why I haven't been posting. And my computer has been giving me problems, so I have to go to the library at times. I would say to give yourself about an hour and a half or so to get to the GHI.

That's not too bad. Thanks, you guys. Now my personal challenge is getting the digital camera I want before then without breaking the bank. My camera is just no good anymore.

If there are still seats available for the tour, I'd be interesting in driving up from Maryland for it with one or two people, and maybe even creating a photodocumentary of the experience, which I could then host on my webpage: http://www.pha.jhu.edu/~mspecian/links/crazylinks/cpr.htm . John mentioned the tour to me months ago, but I just checked up on it now, so my apologies for missing the September 1st deadline.

The first hour and a half are easy, it's those last 15 seconds at that nightmare 49-way intersection where GHI is located that's a problem...

John, Benzee, guys, gals: Sorry I'm not going to make the tour again this year. I have to be in Bethlehm PA that day for an offsite disaster recovery test (I work in NY) of our critical computer data. The last test, about 2 years ago, was, well, a disaster.

It was great meeting a few of you at the upstate mini tour a couple of months ago, I'm sorry I won't be able to meet the Big Group.

I do plan a stop at Charlies Pool Room late in the day on my way home, I'll be thinking of you. ---Ken

DPuro as of now we are still with an aircond. school bus . I may not know up until a few days before if a motorcoach becomes available.

Ken8038 , sorry you cannot join us this year but at least you will visit Charlies pool room on the way home .

And by the way , my recovery from gallbladder surgery is doing well , back to work on limited duty for two weeks and will be at full strength just in time for the tour.

That puts as at 34 paid as Uncle Buck will have to bow out of the trip.
He recently had shoulder surgery and his arm is in a sling and as per doctors orders he cannot attend.
Awaiting payment on Mike S for one that will put us at 35 .
I have not heard from Jason Blatt, Hot Dog King or Danny Botz therefore those seats are now open if anyone else is interested in attending .

We now have 5 seats left .

We will also have some refreshments onboard .Soda and water .

I have been quietly and vicariously reading this thread, and am envious of all of you who will be able to make this tour.

I am originally from NJ, got my RN at Lenox Hill in NYC, worked in White plains, married, and hubby served a tour at West Point. I worked at Falkirk Hospital (psych., and no longer there) in Central Valley, NY.

So I know the area well. I would love to go on the hot dog tour, but it is a long commute from Sacramento, and alas, I am not able to get the time off.

I hope all who attend, have a great time, and lots of pictures are taken. I am so envious.

Anyway, my point was meant to say, I am so glad you are healing well from your surgery. It is not an easy one, and I wish you continued healing and strength.

From the sidelines, and eager to hear how the tour goes. PLEASE, everyone, send your pics and comments for those like me, who cannot make this tour. It will mean a lot.

I remember on last years tour, someone bought a few 6 packs of beer for the adult tour members to enjoy. Would this be allowed again or something frowned upon?

hey, Harriet, now I can say I'm looking forward to meeting you AND your daughter! (even if it does probably mean losing my "bus mate") (LOL)

Don't worry about traffic going that way on Sat. morning....
If it's a perfect "Indian Summer" day, most of the traffic in NJ will be heading south on the Garden State Parkway, (folks heading down to the beach and/or boardwalks for final summer flings)

And it's good that you will have Shayna with you for some nice company for the car ride. (and perhaps she can work on perfecting her driving skills, as well...)

I really wanted to post this last night but just wanted to check first. I work for a beer distributor and might be able to get some free beer. I'd have to get an entire case as we are wholesalers. Whats the consensious among the tour goers? Domestic? Light? Import? Craft/Micro? Or should I decide?
