i gave up on 11 meter when i won the bucket mouth award in 1989.
i still have my thousand watt linear and my screaming eagle.
i prefered using my 1000 watt ranger 10 meter tweaked
      and peaked.

When I first keyed up from my truck it was with a $20.00 garage sale radio and a steel whip as "CB Wannabee". A few months later my 400 watt linear and well tuned radio got the Wannabee part of my handle dropped.
Another few months later I was pushing a thousand watts and kept up a conversation with a buddy as he drove to work in Louisiana. That rig earned me the handle Mr. CB.
I ran my last rig for a while. It pushes considerably more wattage, and from the Texas City Dike I regularly talked to base stations in Lafayette, Louisiana and Corpus Christi, Texas at the same time. That was quite a rig. I could key up driving down the highway here in Galveston County and talk to "Hot Rod" on his Base in Jasper, Texas most anytime, unless the skip was rolling.

I started running CB in 1974 with the handle Tank. My FCC ID was KXJ5129. I started out with a Cobra Cam 89. I have no idea what the CAM meant. I used am AstroPlane ground plane the 1st couple years then got a great deal on a Moonraker 4. By 1976 I had a Cobra 29 mobile for the truck running co-phased antennas. The radio had the funny channels added and a slider. It cranked out about 10 watts. That drove a 350 watt Palomar.

By 1978 I was running a Cobra 128 SSB rig in both the house and the truck, again tricked out for the "other" channels. The house was putting out 1kw thru the Moonraker4. I talked all over the world with that setup.

Now I run an RCI 2950 as a base and a mobile. I use a 5/8 wave ground plane at home and a 4' Firestick II on the truck. Won't be mentioning wattage or channels at this time. Although since I live about 100 yards from the Interstate I have to wait until late night to talk to other then truckers most of the time.

The RCI 2950s rock! I've owned a number of them and my tech man was a wizard at tweaking the model. They are a fantastic radio, and most of my radio experience has been with them.

I bought mine back in '92 after Dad passed and left me some money. It wasn't a cheap radio. But it is still going strong 15 years later. Good God! It's been 15 years already??? I had it retuned and peaked about 2 years ago. I have no problems getting out on that rig.

Glad to hear that you like it.

I have owned and operated most of the different radios popular up to six or seven years ago when I quit being active in them. If there's a better radio it is news to me, Cuz.

Catch me on 145.09 or 52.525..
11 meter days are long gone, unless I slide off 10 meters and raise a little ruckus...
