14th Annual BBQ on the River-Paducah, KY

Starting tomorrow, Thursday the 25th and running through Saturday the 27th is the 14th Annual BBQ on the River festival in Paducah, KY. which is in the far western end of the state. There will be over 80 contestants and normal attendance is 30,000+

All contestants are cooking and selling for the charity of their choice. Sorry for the late notice, but drop by if you get the chance. I cook with the Buzzard Brothers & we are easy to find...look for Bertha the Buzzard high on a pole over our tent. Last year we took 2nd in whole hog & 3rd in ribs. Looking to improve on that.

Now, see, this is where being filthy, stinking rich would come in handy: Hey, hon, look - they're having a BBQ festival in Paducah, KY. We have nothing better to do, so let's pack a bag, hop on the Lear jet, and pop in for a spell.

Relentless - Dang! The Lear jet is out of service for maintenance again. If possible, how about some pics for those of us who can't make it?

Barkley International probably couldn't handle a Lear Jet anyway usually take a fair amount of pics & will try and post some. If anyone is interested, you can probably Google the relevant terms (BBQ on the River, Paducah, KY., Buzzard Brothers etc.) and come up with plenty of info. We have competitors from all over the country.

Of course, the main goal is to raise money for charity. Last year we wrote a check for over $15,000 for ours (St. Paul Lutheran) which was the best we have ever done.

Yesterday was the best opening day we have ever had! Headed back down to wrap meat, load the pits again & get the smoke going. Will try and get some pics today.

The count so far; Yesterday we cooked 256 chicken halves, 56 butts and 128 slabs of ribs. Sold out by 5:00 pm. This morning we loaded the pits with 320 chicken halves, 64 butts and 192 slabs. That will come off around 11:00 & we will load up again. Whole hog will go on sometime this evening. Perfect weather & looks like a great festival for everyone.
