1962 Burger Chef Ad Nostalgia Sat, 10/6/07 9:37 AM (permalink)
This ad is from a full page out of my Speedway High School 1962 yearbook. I believe the Burger Chef on West 16th Street in Indianapolis was the first as previously discussed here in Roadfood.com. I found out last night it was even supposedly owned by one of my classmates parents. Enjoy the prices and remember gasoline was around 29 cents per gallon and cruisin' is what we mostly did.

PS. The Frostop (later Mug'n'Bun) did not advertise despite the fact most of the carhops were Speedway High School classmates of mine at the time. There were a couple of drugstores that prominently advertised their lunch counters. That is a bygone classic.

The first Burger Chef in Philadelphia opened sometime in 1962 across Cottman Avenue from Northeast High School. Yes, .45 for a burger, fries and shake!!
