1st Big Food Event! Sun, 04/27/08 7:17 PM (permalink)
Hey Gang,
Just pulled off my 1st food fest event Sat. here in Key West,FL.
Compared to my little daily gig at what we call Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square, WHOA.
It was a all day affair with Vienna Beef products and all the great signage they provided for me.
Was doing Chicago style dogs(minus the poppy seed buns, bright green relish) can not get that down here without spending alot of cash.
Also, my own creation Island Dogs and Brats, Italian, Polish sausages.
At first I thought sausages would do better, then halfway thru I had to send my helper to get more hotdog product.
Wow, exciting and tiring at the same time.
My buddy was set up next to me who does funnel cakes, hand dipped corn dogs and we were throwing stuff at each other, using funny insults to entertain the crowd.
Strange thing was that it took on a life of its own, wih I took pics, way too busy for that though.
The event was a yearly celebration of Conch Republic Days.
Which is to celebrate a event that happened in the early 80's down here. The federal government setup road blocks at the top of the Keys to check everyone for drugs into and out.
The public officals, esp the mayor of Key West gatherd hundreds of people to go up and protested to succeed from the USA.
the next day the Feds left, Yea for us.
Anyway, we party for a week to celebrate the event.
Awesome day, and I had people coming back and say what a great Chicago dog they had.
thx for listening.
Island Joey

That's one thing I miss about living in FL. There was always a party somewhere. Island dog? What's on it? Sounds interesting.

The Iland dog is a pita shell/flat bread with romaine lettuce and a vienna/best kosher laid on top with my special mango salsa drizzled on top of it all.
I also used a bun if the customer prefered.
