First- We had fun. We didn't sell a lot of subs but we had fun and learned a lot. I can tell you my heart is not in subs. There was supposed to be a vendor selling dogs but they didn't show up. The event organizer said we could sell dogs next month, so next month should be better. Subs are a heavy meal and it seems like a lot of folks had already eaten before they came out. We had quite a few people ask us if we had any hotdogs so we figure they should sell.I guess we sold 20 subs and a lot of soda and water.
The town has it's own little AM station and we met a fellow who has a show every day at noon and asked us to come on and talk about our business. I told him that would be great but need time to prepare. The radio station broadcasts out of the same building the Chamber of Commerce works out of. They go hand in hand when it comes to community and supporting local business.
Anyway, next time we will be doing Chicago style dogs, we will have less waste and be able to manage our product better. Meatball subs are good but there is a lot of waste if you try to cook for large crowds and have to thaw everything out. I can steam a frozen hot dog in minutes. A frozen meatball takes a while. We had 9" sub rolls that we cut down to 6" and sold the 3" portion to kids.
Here are some pics of this evening. The hurricane and a big funeral for a city employee put a dampening on turnout. Still, we had fun.
BTW- if you guys don't like seeing a lot of pics in my threads let me know and I can stop posting them. I never really see too many pics on this board, I'm not sure if they are discouraged or allowed. It does not matter either way to me.
A coffin:
Thanks
