2 days in east TN, over at my blog

Hello, everybody!

We visited two Roadfood.com-reviewed places, along with a joint in Johnson City which was in one of the Sterns' newspaper stories, on a two-day trip to the Tri-Cities, Knoxville, and Chattanooga.  My wife and I wrote up the story across eight chapters on our blog, Marie, Let's Eat!, and I wanted to invite y'all to read about it.  Start here and scroll to successive chapters using the links at the bottom of each page:

Glad you got to try Full Service BBQ. This is our BBQ of choice and the one we tell everyone about. I hope he keeps it just the way it is and doesn't try to expand.

There is another local BBQ place that originated in Knoxville called Dead End BBQ. You may have seen it as you drove thru town. I don't think it measure up to the Full Service experience as true roadfood.

I did see that Dead End location, in fact!  The next time the road takes us that way, we'll probably go to Chandler's for barbecue first (I visited in 2006 and enjoyed it), but I would like to visit and write about Dead End and the flagship Buddy's store.

This article should have a little background on how Dead End BBQ got it's beginngs.

    http://www.thedailytimes.com/news/dead-end-bbq-in-maryville-new-restaurant-chooses-busy-downtown/article_01953957-7e13-5ea3-8e6f-518106b3b30f.html

Funny thing about Dead End and Full Service, Full Service remodeled an old gas station, while Dead End tore down an old gas station in it's location.

If you're referring to the Buddy's BBQ store located in the Foothills Plaza area in Maryville, that location will being moving sometime in the future. A Kroger Market will be built in that area and they purchased all the land parcels including the one Buddy's is on.

And another BBQ place I hear good comments about is Bread of Heaven. They used to have a small place in Alcoa, but lost their lease. I see them now working out of a food truck in the parking lot of Big Lots.

I'm not sure which Buddy's it is, but I'll figure it out before I visit again.  I understand that they do the smoking at one location and then ship it out to all the other dozen or so Buddy's stores - that main location is the only one I need to visit.

For various long family reasons, we simply stay away from that part of the state unless the stars are lined up right, which they were in April, but if Book Eddy was still in business, we'd be up there at least once a year.  MAN, I loved that place.  Best used bookstore I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot.
