The Travelin Man Buffetbuster - I feel the same way about women. From now on, I will only indulge in "regionally appropriate" women. For instance, I wouldn't even look twice at the young cutie from Joe Huber's Farm in Indiana if she were slinging breakfasts at Neicie's in Kansas City. I guess that means you'll only be able to indulge and oogle at the old sour-pusses and battle-axes at Durgin Park in Boston

Gentlemen, Shall we save the discussion of your endless searching for a mate for some 'roundtable time at one of the Memphis Meetings. I think it is time that we seek the input of folks who perhaps can add a fresh new perspective to your quest. Where is Lleechef when we need her ? She would have this problem solved in just a minute or two !

Well My Young Friends...That's not the way it will be next week! I doubt that any of us will be needing to pass off our selections at the places we are going! I will be interested in hearing the travel report for the guys driving the Nachez Trace on Friday. That ought to be an interesting ride !!

Perhaps everyone is happy as they are. I am a married person, but that doesn't mean sometimes I wish I was not. There are those who have that feeling of 'not' exceeds their desire to be.

After leaving Memphis on Sunday, I'm heading up to Owensboro KY, where I'm spending the night in order to have lunch at George's BBQ on Monday ( they're closed on Sunday. ) For dinner Sunday night, I want to make a lil' trip over to Henderson for the famed fried chicken at Bon-Ton's Mini-Mart, but I seem to remember posts a couple of months ago regarding Bon-Ton's future being in question. Can anyone tell me whether or not they're still in business, and if that great chicken is still available? Thanks.

nocarolina- Bon Ton Mini Mart is indeed still in business. I have plans to visit there in April. (I'm starting to sound like WJ!) My advice would be to contact fellow Roadfooder Louis, who would be very happy to meet you there. He is the one who first tipped off the Sterns about the place.

NC I second the need to contact Louis about the Bon Ton's Chicken. I would think that the Sunday Chicken-Cookin' time may be limited as well. But I am not sure. Louis is the Man to know Henderson! Alice, We hope you'll get to a Meet and Eat in the near future.

Buffetbuster, I already have a list of each place I intend to visit in LA and San Diego in April and only a handful are on the roadfood site or in the roadfood book. Most I found or discovered by doing my own research and relying heavily on other roadfooders as well as "yelpers" on www.yelp.com

I think I have what I'm going to order figured out already- Of course, not every place has a menu on the web, so I may have to surprise myself a couple of times

Back to the topic at hand, Friends. Discussing WJ's upcoming menu orders is "sort of" -- IMHO Apologies to I-95, for losing the animation when I converted his GIF Animation to my JPEG Image of WJ Beating a Dead Horse!! (For WJ's upcoming "regionally themed" Derby Brunch !) BTW both Scotties are primed and ready to meet their various Uncles and Aunties at the stops on this journey! I do hope the weather gives us an opportunity for an outdoor group photo in the Hawaiian 'uniforms'. We have to have our roof replaced after the combined Oct. Hurricane and recent Ice storm did more damage than normal. However the company we are working with has assured us they will have it completed prior to next Friday ! They delivered the shingles and the new skylights today. After all the hooror stories on TV about the scammers and rip-off contractors, it was nice to find a company that our insurance people say is rock-solid and does what they claim. It doen't hurt to know they are active in the same church that Janet attends, as well. So hopefully we have our work done and will have the ability to hit the road next Friday Morning (a week away !!)

Although I understand it is quite a common menu item in France. So in order to be "regionally appropriate" I'll have to try it when I have the opportunity to visit.

Yes, indeed, the Bon Ton Mini Mart is still there serving the same great fried chicken, and will be until July 2010. They haven't cut their quality any, so come on and try them out while you can. I'll be happy to share a meal with you.

Al, I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to the 13th. I feel like a little kid just days before Christmas ( doesn't take much to get me excited, huh? ) Seriously, having a steak at Doe's is something I've dreamed about since getting my first copy of Roadfood back in 1980. Since I usually travel solo on my roadtrips, I've gotten used to eating by myself, but it's really going to be nice dining with friendly folks who share my passion for great food.

Bob, I agree with your thoughts completely. When I used to go thru the early Roadfood books..The 1978-80 editions and later the '86 copy (my favorite), I could daydream of the trips to come. While many of the places are long gone now, there are still enough to make some of our roadtrips really fun times. Add to that the characters we have met and shared time with at some of these places and you start to see why this is really a great "hobby"..

I heard from Chris and Amy this evening confirming their plan to join the fun in Memphis. They will be at Doe's in Little Rock at the same time we will be at he Doe's in Greenville. Keep your eye on the weather... I wonder if they make Lumberjack Flannel Shirts in a Hawaiian pattern??? Long-range forecasts call for partly Sunny and in the 50's Friday and Saturday, with Rain and 50 on Sunday. (Memphis)

BULLETIN--REMINDER The Door-Prize activity and the Hawaiian Shirt Fashion Photo will happen SATURDAY Night at LEONARDS BBQ. You are welcome to wear the Hawaiian Uniform to all the activities, but if you wish to save it to make a real "Entry" then hold it for Leonards BBQ! After lunch at Cozy Corner, several of us are looking at a walk up Beale Street to check out Dyers (for Sundancer's "Grease-Burger") and to pick up some tourist junk for future door-prizes. The Scotties will be on parade there as their reward for good behavior in the Truck!. Then we will be running over to check in to our motel and clean u in time for the 6 PM dinner date at Leonards BBQ. BTW, I haven't heard from Mr Chip's and his clan lately. Jim, Early on you mentioned you thought you and your son might be in Memphis...Is that still on? We hope to see you guys next week. OK Stay tuned for more updates. Just a few days to go !!
