Hey, Before we all get caught up in our holiday celebrations, we need some suggestions for a good Breakfast/Brunch on the Sunday Morning in Memphis. I am not familiar enough with non-BBQ places in the area to make a contribution, but some of you must know of places that are calm, clean, comfortable for a group, and make a person feel welcome. Let's hear some thoughts from the potential attendee's ?????

with all due respect for iqdiva,

I was thinking something a little more local (I might melt if I did cajun cuisine in Memphis)

how's about
www.arcaderestaurant.com

The Stern's reviewed it too-

I was last there almost a decade ago, and although I was dissapointed that it was no longer a "soul food joint" the food was still good.

either way it's all good.

The Arcade is one of Memphis's oldest restaurants and was recently rated as one of the top ten breakfast places. Brennan's was rated but was indicated that it was very expensive and the service was questionable.

IQ: No issue with me and I will go where the group wants to go. Brennan's is a bit pricey and not a big issue with me but might be for some???

After Saturday night, I might have difficulty navigating through a full breakfast.

Just got a deal on priceline for Memphis- Holiday Inn Midtown- for $75
on Saturday 2/14 I checked on Holiday Inn's website and the cheapest room was $99 (all the downtown hotels were $110 or more)
just under 2 miles from the heart of downtown Memphis and Beal Street and right on the Trolley line (which runs until 1am on Saturday night!)

The Arcade has my vote at this point. No harrumph necessary here!

Poverty Pete-
I was eating at the Doe's Eat Place in Starkville tonight and my waitress told me that the owners (known as Big Doe and Little Doe) were sitting at another table. Before I had a chance to go say hello, one of them walked over and introduced himself to me.

To make a long story short, I told him that we were going to have a group dinner in Greenville in February and he seemed pleased by the idea.

Looks like Janet and I will be able to make the Friday evening meeting and dinner in Greenville, MS. It may take some fancy schedule manipulation, but we think it will work out. So we'll be looking for a headcount early in January to allow us to make a solid reservation at Doe's for Feb.13th. Start making your plans now Glee Clubbers.

More on the Saturday agenda coming shortly.

Ms Susan,
I have seriously cut back on my Beef intake after my recent introduction to the malady known as Gout. However I believe the Tamales make a great Appetizer and will go well with a smaller serving of some excellent Porterhouse.

BTW For those of you using the restaurant review section on this site to check out Does in Greenville. The review posted is of the Greenville store, but the web-link posted on the review is for the Franchise store in Little Rock, AR. If you want to see the Greenville,MS store's website go to www.doeseatplace.com .

The two family owned branches of this restaurant are the Greenville,MS and Paducah,KY stores. The others are Franchises.

My cousin Johnny and I will be attending and we are planning on ordering EVERYTHING!!! Which includes lots of steaks, tamales, french fries, spaghetti & meatballs, salad, broiled and fried shrimp and anything else they are willing to send out of the kitchen. Of course, sharing with Roadfood friends is a big part of the fun at a get-together like this.

iqdiva, I'm not sure how large the table will be, but I insist that you and I be seated at the same table. You've already dined with Al, Janet and Paul. It's my turn. If the table's large enough, they're welcome to join us. And yes, we will be having steak, tamales and also perhaps a slab of salmon.

I regret to inform that I am unable to attend any pre-Saturday festivities in Greenville. I have a work commitment that is inescapable for Friday morning. I will duck out as soon as I can, but - even if I chose to fly (and that is still up in the air), I can't see how work until 1-2 in the afternoon, hour-plus drive to MCO, lead check-in time for flight, fly to Memphis, secure rental car, drive to Greenville is going to have me there in any time for dinner.

I still have very flexible plans on the back side of this trip. If anyone is planning on sticking around in Memphis, or has any good suggestions for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday side trips, I am all ears.

Travelin Man-
I am sorry to hear that. I would love to hear your opinion of which Doe's Eat Place, Little Rock or Greenville, is better. At least you will have a few days after to do some running around. Right now, I will most likely need to fly home on Sunday night.

TTM,
Sorry the schedule won't work for you. We'll try to to get you fed properly in Memphis. We are working on the Sunday program that may interest you...more to follow.

FOLKS-
Even without our Florida friend, we have a rough count of 15 now and assume some of you who haven't said anything wil be adding in shortly. I will need to give Doe's in Greenville as much advance notice as I can (early Janurary) to assure us of space and time on a Friday evening.

All Roadfooder's are invited to join the fun for Greenville and Memphis or either stop. We will do the doorprize thing at the Saturday evening session in Memphis (tentatively located at Leonards BBQ).

Be sure to let us know here if you plan to attend-

Jan & I will go straight to Memphis on Friday and hope that some kind person would consider bringing us a tamale or three from Doe's. (Like Wimpy, I will gladly pay you Saturday for a tamale on Friday!) Now to run back though the posts and see if there's an itinerary consensus.

Since we were discussing The Arcade as a possibility for breakfast/lunch on the Sunday, I thought I would stop in yesterday. I got there around 12:30PM and there were plenty of open seats. You could still order breakfast, but the lunch menu was nothing but sandwiches and pizza. The sandwich I had was fine, but some people might be looking for more than that.

A place you may want to consider is The Cupboard. Big place, with little atmosphere, but they have a large menu which should please everyone. And the desserts here are excellent.

BTW, this is just a suggestion. If the group wants to go to The Arcade, I will be more than happy to go. The important thing is to share time with my Roadfood friends.

I think The Cupboard has the exact opposite problem that The Arcade has- no breakfast menu . I know that won't pose a problem to you Buffetbuster since you'll probably already be on your third breakfast by then!

2 quick comments:

1) iqdiva, you seem to have blown my grumpy cover. Just couldn't help yourself, could you?!

2) I must have missed something here: buffetbuster, on our last meeting, seemed rather abstemious. Revoltin' development
