Re:2014 Roadfood Tour Destination: Charlotte, North Carolina.
Well in my not so humble opinion :) Friday was good for one thing and one thing only. That was finding out that I don't care for eastern North Carolina barbecue. None of the barbecue we ate was to my liking. Well one slight exception, Nana's soul food kitchen. This place was right next to the hotel and it had the best food I ate Friday. The Fishcamp we ate at also was very good, too bad I didn't have much of an appetite, actually I don't think any of us really did.
Thursday and Saturday on the other hand I/we had some really excellent barbecue. Thursday WJ and I ate at Big Boys BBQ in Columbus, South Carolina. They have only been open 17 months but are doing a great job with the Q. Without doing a sitdown side-by-side comparison of the two it would be hard for me to say if I prefer them or Lexington #1 barbecue.
Big Boys gave us a sample of their hash over rice, pigs feet over rice ,ox tails over rice, and gumbo over rice. They were all excellent. We tried their chopped pork, brisket and ribs. All of it was very good or excellent. If you get down to Columbus, South Carolina be sure to try them out.
Saturday was much much better. Lexington #1 and Keegan's were really good. The chicken at Keegan's was really good especially the spicy chicken. The barbecue was tasty by itself but they put a spicy sauce on it which gave it a whole nother level of taste. I even took a pound home with me. I had it with dinner tonight.
