Just remember Lisa and Michael, you have to pass right by Pittston on your way to New England.  We'll carpool from there!

I-80 East Buddy.  And, to avoid the nasty Jersey/New York traffic, take I-81 North to Pittston, then turn right on I-84.  You should come around here more often and you wouldn't be losing your sense of direction

Golly. I normally take I-80 to the Garden State Parkway, then north to I-287 and across the Tappan Zee and on to I-95. But I suppose ... .

I actually like the idea of somewhere Midwest, KC, Detroit, Cleveland,
never been to those places.
While New England does have great food, it's a bit too far to drive, and plane tix are not on the menu this year.

irisarbor,

I think if this summer get together happens, it will have to be somewhere in the Midwest.  I just think that the turnout will be very low if we go too far West or too far East

Kansas City has been mentioned a few times. As far as I know, I am the most active local on the board these days so I'll volunteer to put together the tour if we have a consensus that Kansas City is the place to go. I will say that airfares are almost always very affordable. However, wherever we decide to go, it would be a good idea to make sure that it is not the same location that the Fall tour is going to.

What about somewhere in New England?  The beach, lobsters, steamers, fried clams and shrimp and scallops, chowdah...........sounds like summer to me!  Then a clam pie to top it all off!

Lisa, if you scramble these letters ( The beach, lobsters, steamers, fried clams and shrimp and scallops, chowdah) It spells Boston!.........You silly devil.

Yes, but when you add "clam pie" it spells New Haven.  Who's silly now?  Hmmm?

It doesn't spell Jimmies in Savin Rock, I owe Michael a beer there. About twenty items off the menu, along with a split dog, should be about right.

Bill, you'd be sad to see Jimmies today. No more going up to the windows to order. No more Sal Gagliardi (Jimmie's son) smiling and taking your order. No more Tony splitting and grilling the Roessler's hot dogs (heck, no more Roessler's) and making the lobster rolls. No more fried clams in the cardboard clam box. Jimmies is now a wholly enclosed seafood restaurant. No fun at all.

Michael, I know, it would be said. I'm planning on being on the East Coast in June of 2015. I know NYC will be in the mix, everything else is still open

I'm brand spankin' new here, but I've been into roadfood since forever (and it shows).  I second (or third) that Providence is the perfect base.  In addition to food (obviously), it has a pretty solid craft brewery community and is easily accessible by the high road (as in flying in).

And if anyone is looking to combine fall color with your seafood, check out Nova Scotia.  I did a whirlwind (3,000 mile) tour around the province and Prince Edward Island.  They have both a chowder crawl and a wine festival (who know?) in September and October.

Ava and I have been discussing a week long trip to New England. I even have a CT Roadfood maven all lined up as a tour guide. We'll probably do this first week in July.

But... If y'all decide to do NE my dates are flexible.

MikeS,

The whole summer idea definitely did not fall apart.  After speaking with a few people in Cincinnati, I've narrowed down the list of candidates to these three:  Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Providence.  Personally, I would be happy traveling to any of these cities during the summer to eat.  Once we agree on a location we can start looking at specific dates.

What do you all think?  Please only respond if you are serious about attending.

Our preferences would be:
#1   Pittsburgh
#2   Cleveland
#3   Providence
We are already planning our own New England trip after my BD dinner at Chubby's.

Thanks for responding lleechef.

Keep this in mind everyone, we have experts that post on this website that could help us plan an eating tour in any of the three cities mentioned.  WanderingJew (Providence), buffetbuster (Pittsburgh), and BuddyRoadhouse (Cleveland).  I'm sure if we ask nicely these guys would gladly offer up suggestions as to where to eat.

Of course, in Providence all you have is Al Forno and New York System Weiners. Oh, and a couple of diners and a "coffee house."

Providence and Rhode Island in general has the best restaurants in the country. Just ask one million folks, even if I try to argue the fact they all point at me and say that I'm nuts. Even my coworker from Nebraska says our restaurants blow away anything she's ever had in the mid west. My other coworker, who is now handling permanent CAT duty in Cleveland says she wishes she was back in Rhode Island because she misses the restaurants. Even after recommending several Roadfood restaurants to her, including Sokolowski's, Balaton and the Flat Iron, she still says the food in Rhode Island is so much better.

Providence should definitely be the place to hit this summer.
