4/13/06 Restaurant of the Day

I travel to Amarillo periodically for my job, and Dyer's definitely appears to be worth a visit, especially for the ribs, sausage and onion rings. But I have to admit that the idea of putting apricot sauce on good barbeque makes me shudder.

I agree, Dyers is pretty good, and I plan to stop there on our Route 66 tour this winter. I tried the apricot glaze once, and while it was good by itself, it didn't hit my ribs or sausage - too sweet for me. The rings are great and the sweet tea was wonderful in mid-July in TX.

We have visited Dyers three times in the past 2 years. 2 of the 3 were very good. The third was pretty late in the evening (near closing time) and the help wasn't interested in making our meal good, much less special. But the other two were pretty good, especially after about 400 miles on the road that day. I like the fruit sauce, but for dipping rings and (lightly) ribs. Put a little Hot Sauce into a cup and add some Apricot and you have a good dipping mess! The place is very handy to I-40 going either direction and the prices are moderate!. I would give this about a 7 to 7.5 on a 10 scale. It is Not Louis Muellers, but it sure is better than Tony Roma's
