Actually, the second Five Guys location is at the SE corner of Beauregard and King in Alexandria.  It was the first to offer in-store seating.  The Old Town location opened years later.

Correct! To me this is still Old Town.....

That Five Guys is three and a half miles from the GW Masonic Memorial, which marks the far western edge of Old Town. That Five Guys location is in no way considered Old Town Alexandria. I think you have your streets confused.

The place is  probably 6 months off by the looks of the construction.  This shopping center is huge and it's going to be nice..Nothing fancy, but looks like a lot of variety.  No indication where 5 Guys is going to be located yet.   I'm just guessing one of the out parcels...

It's hard for me to think of a Brickyard burger in the same breath as a 5 Guys burger.

If you need a fix, they've openned a location just west of I-95's Exit 176.

Bill - I sense a bit of scarism in your post.  Something I am not comfortable with.

Look this is going to be a big event in this part of the world.  Please indulge us a little.  Besides, these few posts pale in comparison with what has gone on over the years with Harold's..Or have you forgotten?

SK - You're paying!  Good.  Let me see if 5 Guys offers a steak on the menu.  Joe said he's flying down in his private jet for the grand opening ceremonies.

Hey, meanwhile...do you have a tux?

I saw that. It said Red Robin. Never been there, really don't want to. I heard overpriced & more atmosphere than food.

5 Guys entered the Atlanta market a couple of years ago.  I have eaten at four locations - Roswell, Marietta, Kennesaw, and Woodstock.  Several burger chains have opened around here recently, but 5 Guys has the others all beat (IMO).  My youngest is a very picky eater and we took her to 5 Guys for the first time a week ago Sunday.  She was very impressed and plans on adding it to her very short list of acceptable places to eat.  Being able to add exactly what she wants on a burger is extremely important to her.  I haven't yet settled on exactly what I want on my burger.  I haven't had two alike yet.  That variety alone is pleasant for me.  The fries are very much to my liking.  Ever since discovering malt vinegar on fries (on a trip to Rehoboth Beach several years ago), I have been a fan.  I just finished an excellent dinner my wife prepared here at home and I am getting hungry just thinking about a 5 Guys burger.

why would you care what happens down here?
I've walked in to a Red Robin Once in Manchester CT, looked at the menu, saw the prices, looked at the giddy teenage waitress's listened to the noise for 2 minutes & left.
give me a 5 guys any day.

I happened to stop at 5 guys today in Murfreesboro, Tn.   Burger, fries and a soda was nearly $11.00.   The whole time I was there, I couldn't stop thinking, "You could sell this for less if you didn't give me 3 pounds of potatoes in a small order."

Opps! My Bad!  I thought that Ben had written that  post.  Anyway, I cannot understand  why guys who live in a town that serves up a good hamburger  cooked to order  and an indy place (Brickyard) would get so excited about a  5 Guys opening.

Oh, So you are saying you only stalk Baah Bens posts?

Why are you sooooo concerned about what and where other people eat?  Why do the Central Florida Guys eating habits alarm you?  Nobody who ever ate at the Brickyard needs you to tell them that the burgers there are superior.  You are like a broken record, knock it off already.

...and very greasy floor (painted concrete) at our Five Guys.

I can't believe you said that about the floors. I went to a new Five Guys for the 1st time in MA. and I could not believe how slippery/greasy the floor was. In fact, I told my 8 year old to be carefull when he went for a soda refill. When your sitting at a table, your shoes just slide along the floor under the table as you eat. It must have something to do with the huge amount of frying they do. By now they have quite a few stores, you'd think that this design flaw would have been brought to their attention.

never had that issue in Alexandria, VA. Have no idea why grease would be in the customer section. You sure you're not slipping on peanut shells? The only thing all over the floor were peanut shells.

Recently I went to the location in Staunton, Virginia, at 1013 Richmond Avenue (US 250).  It was my first time to one; the only drawback was what I thought was loud music playing over the loudspeaker.  The food came in a brown bag, not on a tray like at McDonald's.  Oh, and a regular hamburger has 2 patties, and I thought the fries were a little overdone, like they soak them in some ingredients before deep-frying them.  All in all, it was worth a stop, and I will definitely go back; they're building one south of me in West Chester; IIRC it's on Tylersville Road (I-75 Exit 22; head east).

I think what they're doing is blanching the cut fries before frying them in the peanut oil--that's what we used to do at McDonald's in the old days when McDonald's had real fries from real fresh russet potatoes.

The blanching (dousing  them in boiling water, essentially) keeps the cut fries from turning brown and allows you to stack up a supply ready to fry for the rush times.

You kids today don't know what real french fries taste like--no more beef tallow in the oil mix. Five Guys are ok, but nothing like classic McDonald's fries back in the '60s, early '70s.
