8th Annual Jersey Hot Dog Tour - Sept 24th , 2011 - past trip reports

Hhmmm....

Having been raised in Chicago, it would have to be a Chicago dog. I have not been back there much over the past few years to know what is currently the best, but it would definitely be a Chicago dog and a huge handful of fries wrapped up in butcher paper like they did when I was a kid.

Why not do it up right with a mini tour of 2-3 stops, maybe some of us NJ Dog Tour regulars could join you? If not I'd pick Charlie's over Rutt's in a second, but thats just my opinion.

Wow thats a great idea guys !!
I'm thinking of Rutts Hutt first and then out to Charlies Pool Room .Perhaps one more inbetween . Have to give it more thought .
Seriously I will have about three weeks to a month once the op is approved so I would probably suggest a Sat. in mid feb or early March . Will have to wait and see.
Possibly during the week I would do it also and then we could see if John Fox is off and could join us also .
I'm sure CI Lou would be onboard and perhaps Hot Dog King as well depending on his schedule.

Hello all ,

We are in the planning stage for the 5TH Annual Jersey Hot Dog Tour scheduled for next Sept.
First up is to pick a Sat that most can make it .
The choices are Sat Sept 13th 20th or 27th .
In the past we have pretty much stayed around these dates and it works .
We will nce again have at least one bus , intinerary set up by John Fox with input from the committee including myself and Coney Island Lou , and everyone else who would like to chime in.

I will be promoting the tour on my radio show "Prime Time " heard on WTBQ 1110AM and 99.1 FM every Friday from 1230-2pm and 9-10pm as we get closer to the event that should draw in more Hudson Valley NY folks .

I will be gettting flyers made up and if anyone knows of a company that would be interested in sponsoring the trip to keep our costs down , let me know .

How about some thoughts

How about Plainfield & Delaware Valley?

Amazing Hot Dogs in Bound Brook
1 or 2 Plainfield Texas Weiners
Then out to Charlie's Pool Room and and maybe Toby's Cup in Phillipsburg
Down the Delaware to Big Mama's Dog Pound in Milford
Continue down the Delaware to Dilly's Corner across the river from Stockton, NJ

Hope the surgery went well. What about Bubba's Dog House in Lyndhurst? John and Screenbear reviewed it very favorably on page 40 of the NJ Dogs forum. I've heard that parking is a pain but what about Boulivard Drinks in Jersey City? If we didn't mind traveling a little farther into Middlesex County there is Munce's, a truck on Route 35 in Rahway in front of Rahway River Park and Uncle Petey's Weenie's also on Route 35 but in Woodbridge. There's also some very good Texas Weiner stands in the area as well. Stops at Jimmy Buff's, Papaya King, and either of the Amazing Hot Dogs are fine with me. Charlie's is always wonderful and my wife's never been there. I guess what I'm saying is anywhere is fine with me as long as they have good dogs.

The Original Windmill in West Long Branch,NJ...the one that IS a windmill...And right down the road is Max's...arguably often voted two of the BEST dogs in Jersey,,,two great stops within a mile of each other!

Yes my surgery went well , will be home a few more weeks recuperating .
We have narrowed the date to eother the 13th or 20th of Sept .
Johns schedule fits in to one of these two better .
I love Akavars ideas of adding Charlies and the others , but logistics may force that to be a seperate tour . May not .
Bubbas Dog House is getting good reviews Dave so we shall see if we can add that and a few others from the area.
I would also love to visit Maxs , the original , lets see if the distances are within reach of the others we decide to pick .
John already has some great choices to work with !!

I'm doing good still recovering from surgery at home , probably for another two weeks .
Only problem with sept 6th is that I believe its Labor Day weekend .
The date is not set in stone but it will probably be the 13th or 20th ,
How is the 20th for you signman ?

Benzee, glad to hear your recovery is going well.

Labor Day shows on my calendar as September 1st, (first Monday of the month)

I know the 6th is clear for me; 20th may have a conflict, but is still preferable to the 13th.

I know John being available is the key, and hopefully others will chime in.

Any of the three works for me.

It looks like it is the 20th of Sept for the hot dog tour everyone !!!
Coney Island Lou has a conflict for the 6th .
A few others emailed me about conflicts for the 13th .
So the 20th it is !!!

I wanted to secure the date well in advance because there are a few outoftowners who have voiced interest in coming to the NY/ NJ area for the tour .


We will meet at Galloping Hill Inn our starting point for the tour once again .
Plenty of FREE parking
Great Hot Dogs
Easy on and off GSP

The intinerary will be set by the summer .
We will visit 6-8 stops.

If you check this thread you can see pictures of past tours , great places we have visited and friends that have been made .
You will not be dissapointed if you attend .

Benzee: Pencil Gail and me in for the tour. In my humble opinion Charley's is worth a visit on its own; or maybe with a visit to some other places in the area - like in Easton, Pa. But it's just too far from the North Jersey places , of which there are plenty we have yet to visit, to be included in the annual tour. Glad to hear we will be meeting at Galloping Hill - that's the best stop on the whole tour!!

Seafarer John and Gail it is always a pleasure to see you two . I'm glad you will be joining us again and I'm sure we will have the same pickup point in Harriman at the Train Commuter Lot for those coming from points North . I'm sure we will have a mini meet somewhere before then.

I will have more info on bus costs and exact times in the coming months , but the price will be either $20 or 25 per person depending on bus costs .

Hot dogs at each stop is of your own buying..

There is a lot of interest in organizing a Western Jersey Hot dog Tour in the Spring of 06 . I had originally posted under the Food Misc. section , but I think it is better served here.

Establishments are up for discussion , but it would appear that Hot Dog Johnnys and Charlies Pool Room will be on the list .

I will looking into a motorcoach with lavatory or a school bus for this one also .

I was hoping for last Sat. in April - that too up for discussion.

The date is finalized for Sept 20th , 2008 for the 5th Annual Jersey Hot Dog Tour presented by Hot Dog Nation .

We are working on securing a deluxe motorcoach again as we had two years ago to provide better comfort during the tour from a school bus .

Cost will be $25 per person if we can secure the motorcoach , or $20 if we have the school bus .

The intinerary is still in the planning stages , but after talking to John Fox it is safe to say Galloping Hill Inn will be our starting point and Jimmy Buffs will be on the list also .

For those interested in coming from far away places , we have given you ample notice .
In the past our guests have come from NJ ,NY , Conn. ,PA, Maryland , Mass and VA .

One of our stops will be Jimmy Buffs , as seen on Hot Dog Paradises on the Travel Channel .
Our own John Fox was one of the stars of the show.

We expect to have some media attention with past articles in the Passaic Daily paper , Philadelphia Daily paper , and some online outlets

We have secured a 49 passenger deluxe motorcoach , similar to the one we had two years ago .
Cost will be $25 per person . Including refreshments on bus
