well a must stop is primanti brothers in fort lauderdale easy to get to exit oakland park blvd once you get south of pompano bch a little, go east 1 mile on south side, a sandwich you will remeber and listed here under pitsburg pennsylvania under restaurant tab on top,and of course conch fritters at the tiki bar in islamorada and if you like good fresh seafood and fish you are headed to a good area for it.

It's the exit marked as the historic district and it's on the south side of the road as you head west from the exit. It's a bountiful buffet of southern specialties with excellent NC-style Que, fried chicken, greens, Brunswick stew, etc. Plus it will be packed w/ local folks, but you'll feel very welcome. It would take you a week to eat through all of the scrumptious looking choices. QFan Bonita Springs, FL

I heard that some employees, may have an attitude, but that attitude applies to everyone regardless of race or color. I believe that everyone has to check a place out to draw their own conclusions. I also thought the bbq was pretty good and their brunswick stew was outstanding. Please see my previous thread about my I95 trip and you'll see what I mean

WJ, I assure you that when I* was there, the female employee made my colleague and myself extremely uncomfortable. This happened twice. They may have reformed but once I have been insulted, I never give my business dollars to them. I do not care how good their product is. I am glad you enjoyed it. I will never ever return. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN I have read your opinions on the GA Pig several times, and it is a shame you had such an experience. I don't intend my comments to be a question of yours...just wanted to say I never experienced what you did. I have been there many times and never got the same feeling....and the food was quite good.

I believe you exit from 595 on University and then go south quite a ways. It's in the vicinity of the Nova Southeastern campus. Don't remember the name of the cross street. You can get it mapped from City Search or Mapquest. QFan Bonita Springs, FL

Since I had a similiar experience (twice) --Rude but not Racist-- in 2003 and 2004, I need to ask those who have been to the GA Pig this year....Has there been a change in personnel that you are aware of??? Both times we were there the meatman (Pit Boss) was a white guy, about 30 +- and seemingly pleasant in attitude...The Counter-Woman was mean as a JunkYard Dog. She went out of her way to make you feel like you weren't worth her time. I didn't observe any racial incident's so I won't speak to that, but she was out and out NASTY to me and to my wife when we were there...both times about 6 months apart.

My experience was similar to Al's. The women on the counter were mean as cat s**t!. As I said in a previous post, the friendliest thing in the place was the hound dog who came out from under the porch to be petted. I recommend Don's BBQ in Pooler GA at the Savanah airport exit - no atmosphere but fine BBQ. Cheers, John

It seems that no matter how much planning I put into a roadtrip the vagarities of traffic and weather make it moot. A good day and your planned lunch stop comes up way to early or weather and accidents or a flat tire puts you 3 hrs away from your dinner stop. So you pull off when you are hungry and find a local place, hopefully discovering a gem!

I hate to disagree w/ the powers but the Georgia Pig is not to be missed. I guess it is my southern charm and winning good looks but I have visited w/ Afro Americans, Japanese, Chinese (they like it more than anyone else) and Euro Trash (aren't they all?) w/ zero problems. Little old ladies at the counter washed out Pepsi bottles to GIVE me BBQ sauce. Natural curls and big blue eyes work even when you're 50+. Still look good in 501's also.

By the way the Ga. Pig looks like a hollywood version of VERY poor southern farm shack. Do not be detered...press on...be careful of the porch planks however. This place is unreal in both apperance and quality. Not to be missed. My MIL ate three samiches. She only ate one at Lex #1 or Stamey's. Great stuff!!!!

I have been stopping once or twice a year for many years (could be close to 15...but not sure) and was last there in early 2005, and didn't really notice anything different staff wise. Then again, maybe it is a matter of what I am used to. I get a breakfast egg sandwich a few times a week at a grocery store in NYC, and been dealing with the same guy for 5 or 6 years, yet he has never once looked me in the eye, smiled, or exchanged any pleasantry. A lot of places are like that in my part of the world. I don't prefer it that way...it just is what it is...so I may not be the best judge of what is rude. As long as my order doesn't get bounced off my forehead, I consider things to have worked out okay.

I do not care if they have the worlds greatest BBQ, I would not stop there and give them a dime for my time. They embarassed me twice and that is enough. If you want to give them your dollars, that is up to you. They will get nothing from me or my company. You have heard it from me, You have heard it from the Mayor and you have heard it from others. Do as you wish. Personally, I will leave it alone. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Smith Knoxville, TN Paul, Based on what you're relaying, it sounds to me like you experienced the same rudeness that the Mayor and Seafarer experienced, not racism. I'm with Tony Bad regarding pleasantries and politenes. Here in Rhode Island it's no different than it was back in NY, probably worse. However Pittsburgh was different and even Seattle (very courteous yet aloof) was different. When I was at the GA pig, the guy behind the counter was an African American gentleman, probably around my age (40) give or take medium height and build. There was a woman there too, but it seemed that he did all the talking. I would go back, when I make that trek back down but would also like to try Mac's BBQ which Seafarer mentioned on a previous thread.

the lums in ft lauderdale is in davie florida, take 95 south to 595 west and the first exit is davie road extention, you can only go south, take it about a mile and a half down on the right side just past nova drive and turn in for a beer soaked dog
