A Missing Forum

Howdy!

Well, I guess that one of the forums should be for fair and carnival food, cause hell I love that STUFF!

My favorites are pogos 'n' beer, and those little donuts you can get that's made right in front of you and shook up in all that tasty sugar.

MMM! I get hungry just thinking bout it!

OH O.K. a corn dog, I have had them a a few times. I love the idea but I never had one that I liked, the hot dog has always been cold.
That is not the way it should be is it?

It sure isn't. I don't know who makes your pogos, but they deserver a good old fashioned lobsterclaw-shocker.

Is it just me, or does anyone else read "ass-saurus" when they first look at alesrus' name?

Corn dogs or corn pups here.

As far as carnival food.....the funnel cakes, hot sausages, gyros, spiedies and pizza slices done by the carnival vendors are usually tasteless and greasy. But luckily the locals do similar in their stands along with Cornell type bbq chicken halves so the fair is quickly redeemed.

Now with a name like Trucky McGillis.......you've just gotta be a sitcom star "Everybody loves Trucky?" "Trucky in the City" "The Trucky McGillis Show", "Regis and Trucky?"

"Wurstfest" in New Braunsfels, Tx is next month. Not exactly a "fair" but a 2 week "salute to sausage". Lots of beer, sausage, potato pancakes, fresh bakery items of all sorts, and of course polka music. I can't wait to go down there and eat like a pig and polka like a fool!

ahhhhhhh a good visual image I'm a gettin' here, Mr. Mcgillis.....a heftier Jeff tis a good thing, and thank you for the appreciation of red hair. Was a bit of a burden as the only kid in elementary school through High School with it and forever known as "Carrot Curls", "Pippi Longstocking" "Howdy Doodette" and "The Burning Bush", but I've settled into it now. As far as the sitcom deal...we'll work on it and see what we can do.......that is as long as I get to be the agent, and ride along on your coattails....

And Bill....thanks so much for the recognition. I enjoy this place so much. Besides the warmth of the topics, it's the warmth and camaraderie of the people within. I find myself lurking here way too much to be considered healthy by some, but what the hey. I find myself laughing very much and out loud on many occasions, so I , myself see very little harm in that. It's wonderful to see so many people with food fetishes like I have, and even better to be able to discuss them without getting a bored look or being asked to jump down off the soapbox.Thank you all for having me. Samoochies to each and every one of you.

Ass-saurus? I am imagining the funniest looking dinosaur in the world!

Actually, I started laughing when I saw your name, Trucky. All last weekend as we cleaned out my mother's garage, my brother and I kept calling eachother names to entertain ourselves like "Oopsy McScrewup" "Whiny McCrybaby" and "Stinky Mc****breath". His wife came in and bawled him out and I said, "Ok, Cranky McBadwife." Your name fits the "Y" + "Mc" formula just perfectly.

    Dearfolk,
Umm, back to the "pogos vs. corndogs" schtick... I think pogos are a sausage other than your routine cheapie hotdog dressed up like a corndog, whereas corndogs are just cheap or ordinary hot dogs with a cornmeal coat on (to protect them from the winter chill, one could suppose).
I've always wanted to try a kielbasa or a veal sausage of some time dandied up that way. Anyone know of anything like that, especially in communities where there is a decent-sized indigenous Slavic or German population? - Like at a street or neighborhood celebration, an ethnic festival, or even a county or regional fair?
Biting Off More Than I Can Ah-Choo (Too Much Pepper!), Ort. Carlton in Relatively Mundane Athens, Georgia.
    P. S. At Hispanic gatherings, they would be called "perros calientes con maiz", if I remember correctly. - Homemade salsa, anyone?

It's sort of funny but when I quit being kosher the first thing I ate was a corn dog. It's one of those things that always tempted me and they looked like fun to eat. HOWEVER, I have to agree with the indigestion thing. I don't think my body was up to the challenge and I literally was bed ridden for a day. Well, occasionally I was banished by pure need to the toilet. To make a long story short (and to cut it before I go into description) I've never been able to eat another corn dog.

Holy crap, Ort! You sure know a lot about food! I think it is great about the perros thing. Although I got to tell you - pogos are regular hot dogs inside. Actaully, I think that the Pogo is a brand name for the corn doggers.

Geoff - Sounds like you go woes brother. What is the deal? You go to the doctor or something?

You mean its all that food that makes me...ahh---bigger?And as for fair foods---i have to admit i am a sucker for just about anything"on a stick"!! But having worked a few carnie food booths in my younger day--i tend to avoid them----once made "Burgers" by grinding frozen oxblood with suet-so i stick to meat that i can readily idendify----just where are the nuggets on a chicken anyway?

I don't know if it was just a bad corn dog (sometimes those things get left sitting around a long time) or it was more that I wasn't up to eating most kinds of meat, but whatever it was I wasn't about to go back for seconds.

    Anyone else agree with this:

"If it's on a stick, it tastes good going in, but going out is another thing"

Maybe he was talking about eating - and attempting to digest - the stick. (Could he have thought at first observation that the stick was a part of the food? - We'll have to hear from him on that one. Ouch!)
