A New Way of Outdoor Cooking, New Mexico Style! Fri, 03/23/12 1:26 AM (permalink)
I was playing around on The Smoke Ring web site and came across this information.
http://www.thesmokering.com/index.php/news/91-3rd-annual-disc-it-roundup
Apparently some dude in Albuquerque has figured out how to make an outdoor grill/wok out af a 22' Plow Disc. You know, the kind you use to plow a field of corn! It's really unique!

From the Smoke Ring web site:
"You might not be familiar with a discada. A discada is a popular outdoor cooking device in New Mexico. It is similar to a wok, made from a 22" plow disc. The discada sits on top of a propane, or charcoal fired, burner."

It's fairly regional to NM but is starting to spread to other places. Have any of our NM brethern seen or own one of these? I'm curious to learn how they work. Any of you folks that are going to be in NM in the near future might want to check it out! The Company's in ABQ with distributors in other parts of the state as well as AK, CO, FL, GA, ID, IN, IA, KS, NY, NC, OH, OK, SD, TX, UT and WY.

I've heard of it.  I love that a clever person made a business out of it.

It's just cooking on what's available.

I sold the Evo grill which was like a Mongolian grill. Teppan grills are also similar.

     Griddle cooking made fancy.

Thought this might capture the imagination of a grill peddler like yourself!

I wonder how you would control the temperature with a burner like that shown. Seems like it would have a tendency to get too hot & burn the food. Definitely designed to cook food quickley, like a wok.

I like the portablility of it.  A nice hardened steel should conduct the heat well, but all grills have what I used to call...  cooking zones.

That was my answer to customers who complained of hot or cold spots.   As your food cooks, you move it to a cool zone to finish the process.

I have a difficult time buying things from others.

Tractor disks are also great shooting targets...almost indestructable and they make a nice ringing sound when you hiit them (to confirm you hit it)...

His story is the same as the guy in ABQ whose name is Nevin Montano.
Doe Hernandez have a web site?
