A REAL HERO died Tue, 01/11/11 7:19 AM (permalink)
Major Richard "Dick" Winters died this past week at the ripe old age of 92.

He is the REAL HERO about whom the movie BAND OF BROTHERS was
made.  He went to war, did what he had to do---lead his men, and be a hero.
Then with no bravado came home, bought  a farm and went to work
doing what he had to do again.  Great model, no BS guy.
See ya in Heaven Dick.

We were kids of the depression and went to War in 41 and some of us are still around, Lee.  But, it is a much different America---it scares me to thnk of
the problems that our children and grandchildren are inheriting.  The debt, the terrorism, the missiles, the hate, etc., etc. -----Scary.

I didn't read the book, but watched the mini series when it came out in 2001 and received the DVD a couple of birthdays ago. The "movie" itself was incredible, but the interviews with the real soldiers made it SO MUCH more. Incredibly moving, devastating at times. I consider it THE best thing I've ever seen on television.

Thank you to Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks for showing true heroes and heroism instead of the glamorized version so prevalent in today's entertainment. Rest In Peace, Major Winters...
