A Way To Help Raise Money For Autism Help Wed, 04/18/07 10:38 AM (permalink)
Hello All,
Many of you know by some of my comments that I have an autistic
son. It is a difficult and ...unusual life.
So little is really known about autism, but the growth of
autism in children has been observed in an epidemic rate since
the 1980's. I can tell you from a personal experience that
it is a matter of living a strange hell that you cannot
abandon because you love your child so much. And these
children are growing up, my son is going to be eighteen in June.
And we are coping, and our society will be coping with an ageing
autistic growing minority.
Autism Speaks created a video of a song of Five for Fighters.
The Band is donating $.49 to Autism Speaks each time the video is
viewed. Autism Speaks is a group of parents of autistic children
seeking answers, promoting research, and educating the public.
I would ask my friends at Roadfood to view this for selfish motives.
The site is http://www.whatkindofworlddoyouwant.com/videos/view/id/213154
It is a kindness, and I appreciate it deeply.
Thank You.
And...
Take Care,
Fieldthistle

I have a challenged child also. We will send a portion of our aspargus reciepts and egg money to the fund for Autism. I'm sure they will laugh their butts off when it comes in "In honor of Fieldthistle's child" but whatever, I like causing laughter.

I think of my daughter who was "main streamed", the pain she went through and the true growth it generated in her. As the French poet Camus once stated "if it doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger".

She is fourteen and can only functionally read but is drop dead beautiful. She is the model you see when you look at the dark haired beauty in the Target and Sears ads. She is tough as nails and this culture has provided her w/ (due to her apperance) a profession.

We BTW are sending her to Carolina to get her MRS w/ a MD. He will be lucky as her sisiter is a genius, her Mother sweet and her Father (that is ME) a great cook.

Children w/ special needs are a challenge. I have two daughters and they are soooooo different. Both have special needs...one to make sure the taunts aren't accepted and another to accept she is much much smarter than the rest of the world. Our Lord gives us these tasks as parents.

Fieldthistle, I've watched the video and the messages it sends. I'm proud of your courageous efforts and thanks for sending to your Roadfood friends.
If you wish, send it to me in e-mail form revised for the general public and I will forward to my friends.

Rouxdog, thank you as well, and I am not sure what you mean as far
as revised for the general public, but will think more on that.
                  But Rouxdog, thank you.
V960, I just honour you as a fellow parent of a "child of grace".

Fieldthistle, I apologize if my suggestion confused you. What I should have made clearer, was to send your well stated personal comments concerning Autism and the website link simply omitting references to "roadfood". The "general public", folks I plan to forward to aren't in the Roadfood family. I simply wish for your message to reach their eyes clearly in hopes they follow through with your request.
                      Hope that helps.

                            Fieldthistle,
I have have always enjoyed your prose. I am but dirt under your boots in my expressions. I have two wonderful daughters...one is by the school system challenged and another who is gifted...but I wonder is the challenged one not properly approached?

Ah He** another blockage in life.

My nephew was misdiagnosed for years. Finally, at age 10 they figured out it was autism. Normally, I would just pass on something like this. But now it hits close to home so I will do what I can to help.
