OK, having lurked and drooled over posts by many of you, I decided to take my virgin voyage at uploading pics and report on a place on Cape Cod yesterday (Tue, 6 Jan.). Be kind!
Had to go up to Falmouth to pick-up my sister's car and drive it to PA. Went up on the train (really BAD Hotdog!) to Providence and then we drove to the Cape.
And while there are pics below, alas, I couldn't introduce you to my all-time favorite Roadfood type place. Paul's Pizzeria in Falmouth is a little hard to find, but it has some of the best Pizza, fried clams, and Linguica sandwiches. I don't think I have ever seen it mentioned on here although I have seen references on Chowhound.com about it. Unfortunately, they close Mondays and Tuesdays during the winter. I'll have to save my glowing comments for another time (Disclaimer: I grew up in Falmouth, my family knew Paul Noonan, I really liked his niece growing up, but she was an "older woman" -by about 14 months, but I really, really did - and do - like the food there too!)
So on a wet and icy night in January, we saw another place open, KKCodders, on route 28 (Davis straights). It's cozy and quaint inside and they actually had a free-standing heater going to help keep the booth area warm.
Of course I had the fried clam plate (Whole bellied only for me, but they also had strips. My older (much, much older) sister was apalled that I was going to take pictures of the food, but she'll just have to learn to deal with it! She opted for the pulled pork sandwich.
A new very young and very inexperienced waitress, but on a cold Tues night in Jan, who cares; it was the food that counted.
The pulled pork sandwich was perfect and delicious:
Cole slaw was also good, but the fries could have stood a few more minutes of frying.
Then came my clamplate:
You can see the clams under all those onion rings and fries. I think I would have preferred a better presentation where I could get at the clams easier.
As I said, the pulled pork was excellent, the clams were pretty good for a cold Tues in January . Not my most favorite, but then again, there was only the one night. I prefer larger clams and less breading, but others seem to prefer this style. The onion rings were good and not greasy.
To get a sense of the size, here's a close-up (the plastic utensils were clam-shack compatible, but I would have thought we might get metal in an inside restaurant with bar):
So, the net verdict was:
Pulled Pork...................Excellent
Fried Clams .................Good
Ambience.....................OK
Bonus points for being open in January and being friendly. Worth another trip (If Paul's is closed)
Then I got to drive back to PA in the Weds ice storm: 7 hours of ice-kissed trees and a few cars off the side of the road. I think tonight is take-out Chinese......and a hefty dose of Vodka!
