Actually, Lucy, it'll be four, since buffetbuster is planning on joining us. With so few people responding, I briefly considered pulling the plug on the whole deal, but then I realized that even a mere four Roadfooders together still constitutes a "meet n' eat". Therefore, the show must ( and will ) go on.

Hey, four people, particularly these four people, still constitutes a party to me!

Don't start worrying yet- summer gets busy for people and they can't make a commitment more than a week in advance.

We fall in the categaory of can't committ more than a week in advance...
it's on between weekend for our son's camp, and we're still undecided as to whether we're going to Family weekend or not.
If we don't go we (or at least I will join you.
If we do go, we'll be in Northern WI....

I'm pretty sure I can go, but a final answer depends on a couple of factors outside my control.... I should know in a few days for sure.

Welcome to Roadfood, HelloDriver. We'll be glad to have you join us on our little culinary escapade. The meet-up place will be the Schoop's in Chicago Heights ( US 30 just east of Western Ave. ) at noontime on Saturday the 31st.

The entire Roadhouse Clan is in for the tour!   I managed to do some schedule flip-floppin' at Burt's and freed myself up for the day.   Buddy, Mrs., abe_froeman, and newly minted son-in-law, Mr. Maki will all be joining this invasion of the Hoosier State (you're sure it's safe, right?  The only feud worse than that between the Flatlanders and the Cheeseheads, is the one between the evil Big City Chicagoans and those Lost-In-The-Backwoods Hoosiers).

Sure would be nice if some Contingent members from north of Russell Road would come on down and keep an eye on things.  You guys are separated from the Hoosiers by a whole state, so they got nuthin' against you guys.  Plus, it sounds like there could be some good grub involved.

Since we're going to have an hour or two to kill between our meals at Zel's and Jalapeno's, here's what I have in mind:
                                                    www.cabelas.com

For those who've never been in a Cabela's store before, they are just incredible. The Hammond IN location, which is only ten minutes or so north of Jalapeno's on US 41, is big enough to house a museum; in fact a wildlife museum of sorts is contained within the store. The one time that I visited the place, I spent over an hour looking at all the great stuff, and still didn't cover the entire store. Sort of the outdoorsman's equivalent of Cincinnati's famed Jungle Jim.

Looking through Cabela's website, I just discovered that the store contains a restaurant which features deli sandwiches made from elk, wild boar, bison and ostrich. What, no musk ox?

I'm pretty sure I can go, but things are still kind of in the air. However, I'm much more certain now than I was last week that I can go. If you'd like, I can confirm as we approach the date, or I can just show up (if all works out) at Schoop's at noon....

Not sure what other Wisconsinites are planning to do....

John, I'd appreciate it if you'd let me know as soon as you do. Right now I still have no idea how many people to expect on Saturday.

I've been meaning to check out Cabella's for quite some time.  Saturday's visit is perfect timing for me.

Good plan.

I am still waiting for my family to tell me if there is a gathering going on or not.
They do this to me every time. They don't decide 'til the last minute, then seem upset when I tell them I already have plans...like a single person should just be WAITING for a chance to do something with the family, otherwise they'd just be sitting around doing nothing....

I'll double check with cjucoder & the foodlovers. I think quijote was going to make this part of a bigger trip if he was indeed going to join. Did strickendetective have that same plan? Anyone else from SE Wisconsin want to join us? I've got room for a couple more in the car as of now.

Anyone know of a cheap but good hotel/motel close by? I could google it, I know, don't yell at me. I'm trying to decide if I can swing this financially.

I really do need my own car, since I might (likely will) peter out before everyone else, and I don't want to drive all the way there and home all on Saturday.

Not looking good right now. I'm really disappointed. This visit is in a new area for me and I love exploring new places. Plus I love hanging with the Contingent.

Pam, there's a Motel 6 in Merrillville-- I took a look and you can get a room for $40 plus tax. And there's always Priceline--there may be places in the Schererville area at bargain prices.

Thanks Q! I'll check out you're suggestions. Never did Priceline before, too afraid I'd end up in a crappy spot, but maybe in this dire circumstance it may be worth it, especially for just a couple nights.

Pam, I've been using Priceline quite a bit lately and I highly recommend it. There are past customers' comments in each motel's listing that will give you a good idea if this is a place you'd want to stay at or not. It's worked pretty well for me so far.

Send me a PM with your phone number and I'll walk you through the "Name Your Own Price" function on Priceline.  It will enable you to stay in 3 star hotels and above for practically dirt cheap.  2 Star hotels for less than dirt cheap!

Hi- I just want to confirm that we are for sure no shows
We will be wandering the wilds of Wisconsin this weekend,
visitng our boys in camp (near Wausau),
and then going where the winds take us after...
Have a great time, we'll likely see you all at the Brat thing.
(even though it's on our Anniversary)

I'm afraid buffetbuster won't be joining us on Saturday after all, due to the same work-related problems that caused him to cancel his Maine trip this past weekend. Here's the itinerary for Saturday the 31st, starting with a meet-up at Schoop's at 12:00 noon:

1. Schoop's ( hamburgers )
    700 W. Lincoln Highway
    Chicago Heights IL

2. BuffaLouie's ( wings )
    2126 45th Street
    Highland IN

3. Zel's ( roast beef sandwiches )
    210 US 41
    Schererville IN

4. Jalapeno's ( Mexican )
    right next door to Zel's

5. Cunis ( ice cream )
    1030 E. 162nd St.
    South Holland IL

I was wondering if everyone who's planning to attend has a GPS in their car. If so, I won't bother with printing out directions, but if you don't, let me know and I'll throw something together.

Bob, it looks virtually certain now that I can attend--but with a catch: I'll probably have to leave after Zel's.

I've been trying to make this trip coincide with a visit to Urbana/Champaign and Springfield--kind of challenging when taking into consideration the schedule of colleague-friends at the U of Illinois. But if I leave NW Indiana around mid-afternoon, I'll get to U/C in good time.

If things fall apart at the last minute I'll let you know, but this should work.
