A sort of new restaurant in Knoxville (Pero's)

A family owned restaurant in Knoxville named Pero's was located on Kingston pike for many years.  The owner closed it down suddenly about ten years ago.  The restaurant was super and the food fantastic.  The owner indicated that he was too old to do this anymore and he sold his property to McKay's which is a very good used book store.  My family ate there many times and always enjoyed their food.

They have now reopened with the same recipes and good food on Northshore drive at Rocky Hill.  I have not been there but I have talked with folks that have and they indicated it was as Great as ever.

Was it someone in the same family who reopened it?  That is good news for you Paul and I hope it is as good as you remember.  Please let us know once you go.

I don't remember the old one, Paul, and hadn't heard about a re-opening.  Maybe the Grup Scout ( local restaurant reviewer) will give us a scoop on it.

Paul, et al, you might want to go here and look at the menu.  Looks interesting.

I am taking Mamaw Smith and Iwanago to Pero's this week.  I will report back on the quality of their food and I hope that is identical to the old Pero's that closed on Kingston Pike about ten years ago.  They are kin folks to Louis on Broadway which in my opinion has by far the best spaghetti sauce that I have ever had.  It is slighty salty and very meaty.  Outstanding and many on Roadfood has tried it.

I took Roz to Pero's tonight and I was extremely dissapointed.  I got the Veal Parma and Roz got their pizza.  The veal was very greasy tasting, the onion ring was not tasty and Roz's pizza was less than ordinary.  My advice is avoid it.  Sorry to say that as I truly enjoyed their previous location on Kingston Pike about ten years ago when they closed but it ain't the same.  Service was OK but the food was NOT.

perhaps my expectations were way too high??  I recall eating at Pero's on Kingston Pike many times over the years and when they suddenly close due to the owners age, I was extremely disappointed.  I expected them to have the same taste and quality that they had provided my family over the years.  It was not there.  Service was good but the food was below ordinary.  They have a great location in a area that is sorta wealthy.  I was so disappointed.

The Grub Scout must peruse this board. Here's his review

Thanks for posting the article.  I was surprised to see it got 4 stars after reading the review which wasn't the type of review I'd expect for a 4 star review.   I don't think I have much interest in checking it out.  I find knoxville has a dearth of interesting, different restaurants.  Plenty of chain places though.
