A strip club wants us

So, we were set up at a Harbor Freight over the weekend and one of the customers talked to us about setting up outside the "dance club" he manages. We're thinking of doing it. But before we commit, I wanted to ask if anyone on this forum has set up outside an establishment like that? I've read previous posts about bars, but couldn't find anything on these types of clubs.

If you personally have no problem with it, I would say, go ahead and do it.  I am guessing that strip clubs are legal in Phoenix.  Strippers and their "subjects" need to eat too.

I work a "regualr" bar now three nights a week. It is a huge bar that can have as many as 1200+ people in it depending on the event. I do "ok" but not as good as you would think. It works with my current schedule so I havent changed locations. It is not easy to work the bar scene because of the people and the hours but if you want to give it a try by all mean do. Be sure and adjust your price at a bar. I charge $3.50 for a hot dog. Plan on not serving drinks of any kind becauase most bars will not let you.

I used to work at McDonald's in FL while in high school (I went to adult ed at night and worked days). We had two strip clubs in town. One "low class" on the south end of town and a high end one on the North end of town. The "girls" from the one on the south end of town would come in for breakfast/lunch. Girls do not have Adam's apples.


One of our longtime family friends (they had kids our age and we all played together) oldest girl worked the high end one. Not all the girls there were ... girls. The family friend was the only good looking  stripper I have ever seen. Most that I have seen were strung out on drugs & booze. Even the higher end place had most of their dancers on drugs. The things that she came home and told about that place would curl your hair and I'm sure we didn't get told the worst. She worked there two years and paid her way thru art school.

My daughter and a friend of hers went to a strip club up in ABQ last fall. She was curious and he was willing to take her. She said ALL the dancers there had Adam's apples... and they couldn't dance. She said real strip clubs were not like the Movie versions.

I think it's funny when guys get all worked up over strippers. Most of the strippers I've run into over the years were either guys or loathed men. Hate is too mild a word for the way these women felt about men.

 Be sure to protect yourself from being robbed. Lots of people hanging out in places like that do not always have the best of intentions and do some stupid things with a few drinks in them.

Oh, I don't know about that. I know a judge who paid her way through school working in a strip club, and there's a pretty successful realtor around here who did the same.

I hoped this would be a good conversation. We're gonna give it a try so we'll let you know if it's successful or not. They have a couple of bouncers at the door so I think we'll be safe. And the boyfriend has his gun and well trained in using one. Just hope we never have to.
 
The club is in a good part of town. I've been in a different club a couple times with some friends. It's "interesting". I agree, I think a lot of these girls have their heads on straight and stripping is just a stepping stone to the next chapter in their life.
 
Everyone has to eat, right? And we don't have to go back if we don't like it. I will keep you posted on how we do.

Believe it or not, some are not forced to do that work, they want to, for the money.

Most bars have bouncers. And we always carry our gun. In today's world, you need one in this business. As well as in life. The bad guys have them, why not the good ones?

So if you had already made up your mind, why did you ask? As for the gun thing. We don't carry a gun. If the area is that dangerous, we will move on. I'm pretty sure that we don't have enough $$ on the cart to warrant killing someone over it.  I also wouldn't advertise that I have guns. But that's me. It's like I will never say whether or not we have guns on board. Don't forget our home is mobile and that creates some "grey" areas as not all states recognize our bus as a home rather than an "automobile"... vastly different laws apply. We go to too many different states to risk that. Until recently, we stayed in far too many public campgrounds where having a gun, even unloaded, was enough to get us kicked or arrested.
 
Right now, David is setting up 1/2 block from the city police station.

I think most people associate a strip club as, a not very desirable atmosphere. I think they may view the people that go into the strip club as, Not very desirable people. Why would you want people to view you and your business as a business that deals with undesirable places and people.
  Phoenix is the 5th largest city in America, there has to be a better option than this. It sounds like the owner approached you with the offer, maybe you can knock on a few doors for a better location.......pnwc

Thank you everyone for the conversations/opinions. I was told at an early age if you ask for someones opinion you will get it. You may not like what you hear, but you will still get it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and as we can see there are many when it comes to these types of clubs. I was looking at it as an opportunity to make a living to support my family. Just as some of the girls dancing, or bar tenders serving drinks or bouncers keeping peace. I'm not a judgmental person and try to be respectful of people.
 
We will continue to look at other options as we are just getting started. After a lot of good vs. bad discussions, we have decided to pass on this opportunity. For our own reasons.

A job is a job man, Everybody needs to work and make money.  If you feel comfortable setting up do it!

David is currently at the intersection of N Main & W 2nd between the chamber of commerce and the building that used to be a Denny's/Whataburger/Balloon something or other.

The only thing I would be worried about...and it's from personal experience when going into one almost 20 yrs ago....is that I think a lot of guys are embarassed entering and exiting and just want to get to their car (or get inside) asap and aren't going to stop for food.  But I might be wrong....perhaps the entrance is not facing the street or the stigma is gone since I had gone in one a few times long ago....
