A taste of Ireland

At lunch today I discovered a new chip, at least to me. The new chip was called Tayto, and is in a red, blue and yellow bag with an odd potato character on it who looks like he's a creepy flasher. The chips are made in Dublin, Ireland and the place I purchased them was an Irish/Italian deli in NY. They only had one flavor available, so I partook of the cheddar and onion variety and settled down at work to think of things like John Ruddy and lunch. I popped open the bag and tried them, and much to my chagrin they were kind of gross. They looked like a standard Wise potato chip, yet tasted like really fake sour cream and onion. They almost had a celery flavor to them. I was very dissapointed by this opportunity to add a new chip family to my repetoire. Oh well, I'll keep searching. Shakespeare died on his birthday.

I have never had Irish chips, but other chips that I have had in Europe and Asia were, IMO , not that good either. Perhaps they cater to local taste, and a European visting over here wouldn't like ours. On the other hand, Canadian chips are great. People rave about chips from Hawaii, but I don't care for those either.
