A&W + Colonel Sanders! Sat, 02/25/06 10:55 PM (permalink)
My jaw almost hit the floor! I was traveliong thru Ohio today when I actually saw what appeared to be an A&W hot dog stand intergrated with a Kentucky Fried Chicken. Due to time constraints I could not stop. But this is a first for me. When I get a chance I will make that special trip to check it out. Mercy!

Yum brands owns KFC, A&W, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Long John Silvers and maybe others and mixs/matchs them in different communitys and They are/were part of Pepsi-Cola

One more reason to appreciate your local guys even if they are a local chain.

A&W hot dog stands are found in shopping Mall food court locations where they have a small space without room for a grill.

There's a KFC/A&W place near me in Capitola, CA. The food from the A&W part of the menu is low quality fast food. It's probably better than what you'd get at McDonalds or Burger King, but not by much. The root beer is still good though.

Too bad the food isn't better, because it is a fun concept to order from both menu's. For example, you could order a hot dog from the A&W menu and cole slaw from the KFC menu and make yourself a "slaw dog."

I remember the "Mama" burgers from A&W...as well as their onion rings, and root beer, from their still existent drive-in in Cortland, New York.

I am absolutely amazed how this place still stays in business...the last time I was there was at least thirty years ago, and the whole area is inundated with sit-down, "fast casual" places.

Does anyone remember what year/decade A&W changed from their classic menu of
Papa,Mama,Teen (with bacon, everyone's fave) and Baby burgers.
Going back after so many years the only thing that looks familiar is they still sell those little glass rootbeer mugs.

Here's a partial answer that I found. It seems that the family of burgers began in the US in 1963 and ended sometime in the early 1980's.

              "October 1999
A & W Food Services of Canada re-introduces the Burger Family in western Canada, featuring the BabyBurger, TeenBurger, MamaBurger, PapaBurger, and GrandpaBurger. Most of the Burger Family products were taken off the menu in the early 1980s."

This site also has a history and the fellow has the full history of mugs at http://www.islandnet.com/~kpolsson/mugshots/awusmug.htm
