Absolute Worst Cheesesteak Sandwich

The most disgusting Cheesesteak sandwich I have ever had the displeasure of tasting was at the Ocoee, Fl. Firehouse Sub shop. Stay clear of this item unless your idea of a great cheesesteak is a steamed beef sandwich, very nasty. They do have great other sandwiches though.

The list of restaurants that serves bad "cheese steaks" is endless. I used the quotes because what is typically served bears no resemblance whatsoever to a real cheese steak.

Cheesesteak is best left to Philadelphia all others are just "want-a-beeeez"
When in Rome do as the Romans, when In Florida eat Key Lime Pie, and leave the cheese steak to Philly.

Disagree. I've eaten at the Philly cheese steak places, but the best cheese steak I've ever eaten was in Towson, MD - at a little joint called the Real Thing.

There are plenty of other places where you can get a decent cheese steak across the US too - but they can be hard to come by. I actually found a really good cheese steak shop in Plano, Texas of all places, though the name escapes me now.

I have been to firehouse subs when traveling, and thought they were pretty good. The steaming to heat the hot sandwich meats seems to be a lot better than the microwaving that most places use. It wasn't the best cheesesteak I ever had, but considering the source, it wasn't bad either.

The name escapes me at the moment, but there's a sports bar here in Jax that serves a cheesesteak worthy of the name. I know Ive mentioned it in other cheesesteak threads.

I agree Firehouse makes a decent sandwich but like subway, larry's giant and arby's they are "cheesesteaks" in name only, ths goes for the "subs" as well, not bad sandwichs but definately NOT subs or hoagies.... just m.h.o.

No, I sure haven't. I have only been to Emmitsburg once or twice in my life. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

And to my knowledge it is NOT advertised as a cheesesteak, either.

    Really....?

"Following the 1136 destruction of London bridge, its maintainer Peter de Colechurch proposed to replace the timber bridge with a permanent stone construction. A tax was levied to fund the new stone bridge, and construction of a new stone bridge was begun in the reign of Henry II, under de Colechurch's direction, in 1176. The new bridge took 33 years to complete and was not finished until 1209, four years after de Colechurch died, during the reign of King John." Wikipedia

Guess AZ is older than I thought - sorry.

1968: London Bridge was sold to Robert P. McCulloch for the sum of $2,460,000. The bridge was shipped piece by piece to Lake Havasu City, Arizona, where it was reconstructed and dedicated on October 10, 1971.

You are right, that's Tower Bridge. However, the "original" London Bridge was built, as above , pre-1136.

Not a huge cheesesteak expert. More of a Pastrami sandwich, Pizza and frank/hotdog expert. However, my worst cheesesteak experience I would have to say was in a restaurant in Washington, DCs Union Station. The place is called "America" where they feature regional foods from all over the nation. Unfortunately, I ordered the Philly cheesesteak which turned out to be big steak strips with melted chedder and cooked onions on hero bread. Very sloppy sandwich where when take a bite the steak strips come out by the whole while the cheese and onoins drip out the side of the bread. Very disatisfied to say the least!!!

I had a bad cheesesteak experience on Houston Street in NYC. It was a place called Dopey Benny's and I asked for it with whiz and wit' onions. It came without the whiz, no onions, and had parmesan cheese on top. Ewww.
