wanderingjew, I'm looking forward to your 2009 list! Can't wait to find out all the places I need to make trips to

Next place I went was Shield's Date Garden, I really love this place. If I were in the area I'd go there for a shake every weekend!

I failed to figure this out from your writeup: what is the Lo-Lo's-endorsed method of eating chicken and waffles?

You know it was more a suggestion to separate everything out first and then try all the combinations until I found how I personally like to eat it. They don't have a secret Lo-Lo's method...sorry...but good question.

I like mine doused in hot sauce and alternating between the chicken and then the syrup laden waffles.

Unfortunately I had a dissapointing dinner at La Piazza Al Forno in Glendale, AZ. I've heard only good things so maybe it was just an off night. Anyone else eaten there?

I'm in Scottsdale right this moment and I can't get anyone to go to any of these places.  :(

I really wanted to go to Matt's for breakfast but looks like it's out.

Wedding food tonight for dinner.... I hope!

I drove from Los Angeles so on your recommendation (and because I've never had one before) we will be stopping at Shield's for a date shake on the way home.  I'll let you know what I think.

Oh goodness!!! Shield's is phenomenal, please do go and please let me know that I'm not insane by being a total groupie of 'em.

I highly suggest you hit up either Mrs. White's or Lo-Lo's, try to persuade the "others". Also, if you can, make it to Matt's...get a waffle, I was reading some posts about them and they look fantastic.

Not really. What old school Mexican place did you have in mind?

I went to Cafe Castro in Santa Fe...that was pretty good.

I also went to El Tepeyac Cafe:

If you make to Milwaukee, besides the frozen custard, butterburgers and German, Jewish and Serbian delicacies, you couldn't go wrong sampling some of our Mexican restaurants. La Canoa was recently reviewed in our local paper. Here's a Mexican-style seafood soup with  crab, clams, squid and fish~

Some deep fried tilapia~

A shrimp cocktail~

and the full review~

MilwFoodlovers wow that's quite a list you got going for me. Looks like you can't go wrong with that seafood soup. I certainly want to get some frozen custard and a butter burger. I'll be sure to get recommendations from you when I'm headed up there.

Those potatoes n' onions at Matt's Big Breakfast look soooo good! If it wasn't for my severe aviophobia, I swear I'd be on the very next plane to Phoenix...

Hehe. Well fill up the tank and start now...you'll be there before you know it

It's a good breakfast bit not that good...I'd bet you could whip up some nice rosemary potatoes at home this morning.

Alright everyone...listen up...the best burger I've ever had, at Standard Diner in Albuquerque, NM. If you haven't been there I highly recommend getting in the car right now. Does anyone else concur with my lunacy over this place?

Atole Pinion Pancakes!  Now that's something I got to try.

Blue corn flour can be dry but I like the taste.

I love that you have them split things.  I'll have to try that next time I'm split between two choices.

Give me both!
