Adding a grill/griddle to your cart and a condiment bottle holder. Fri, 02/3/12 1:43 PM (permalink)
Here is a little project I did where I added a grill/griddle to my cart. I have about $300 total dollars in the setup. I am very glad I did it because now I can grill onions, heat pretzels, and grill brats and sausages. Grilling onions sure has made a difference with sales because that smell really brings them in.

You will need the following items:
Grill
Griddle Insert
Mounting Brackets
Stainless screw and washers
U Bolts
Y propane splitter
5' propane hose extension

Feel free to ask any questions????

Always check with your Health Dept. before adding anything to a cart.

Also notice the condiment bottle holder I added. This thing rocks!!!

        it looks great.

How well can you regulate the temp on that and how long will a bottle of gas last

Regulate temp? Not sure exactly what you are asking but...

It has a high to low setting and two burners. I keep one burner on all the time and use the other side just to keep things warm. I have noticed an increase in propane consumption but nothing to bad. I keep one burner on all the time on my cart, keep one on the grill on alll the time and turn two other burners on and off as needed to keep temps correct of chili, kraut, etc. I setup for 5 hours at a time and can do this for about three nights straight. Keep in mind that this will vary depending on outside temps, and other factors. I am not disapointed or suprised in the propane use and just look at it as a cost of doing business......

            Copycat. Funny how similar.

I take it you transport with the grill attached? I didn't like the idea of that so I made mine removable, now I want to make it quick release.

the local HD here in cumberland county made us take the factory installed nsf griddle off the cart before they would inspect it..... absolutely would not have it !

i do love the bar well (condiment rack) i plan on something like that in the truck since i come from a recent bar background, that just feels natural to me.....

and god yes..... i am so glad to hear someone simply say "a cost of doing business"..... too many times i see people try to cut corners/ trim costs just because their bottom line fluctuated 3%......

cause ya know what ?...if 3 bucks on the hundred are going to make or break you, you might need to be doing something else...... and if your just too damn greedy to absorb it i feel sad for you......

lol, i will never be a millionaire due to that philosophy im sure... but i maintain just fine :)

                  @backalley,

If you want the grill on the cart you need to contact Raleigh and talk to them. I know that a NSF (or equivalent) grills and griddles are supposed to pass inspections in all NC counties. This is a case of an inspector’s wrong interpretation of the rules. The rules are state wide not by individual counties. When in doubt about what an inspector has said contact Raleigh for confirmation. If what Raleigh says is different then what the inspector said make sure they back you up to get done what you need or corrected.

PM me if you need more info.

PS: It looks like a lot of over hang but it actually is not.

Don't remember the brand. Some cheapo made in China re-branded with a bunch of different names. Got it at Costco around $100.00. 20k BTU

I offer this as a suggestion.  Some where I saw a cart manufacture that made their own flat grill (abt 12" x 18") and installed it in a similar manner; but I can't find that URL anymore.

A Suzzy-Q grill add two burners (abt $120 to $160); plus same angle framing.

You need about 9" clearance if using side-hinged lids like I shown; may be 6" if using middle hinged lids as shown above (??).   The grill surface is approx. 46-48" from the ground (bottom of tires) as shown, if top of cart is 36", some are less.

Great job. I too am looking to add a griddle to my unit but space and layout won't allow what you did. Where did you get that condiment rack?  Is that a standard bar item? I really like that.

Yes, it is a standard "speed rail" that cost around $20 or so. They come in different lengths and quality so just measure and buy what works for your cart. If I had to do it over I would by one a little longer because you can always use the extra capacity.

They may not, as many HD do not approve of open cooking on carts.   But as I stated, one cart manufacture did build their grill in that postilion.     Other cart manufactures place the grill behind the steam pans.

I only offered this for anyone looking to add a small grill to their cart and their HD will allow it.
