My girlfriend and I just got back from Old Forge, NY after spending the weekend with some friends. It really is beautiful up there and the weather couldn't have been better. Although I had forgotten how cool it gets at night (low 50s) and didn't pack any kind of long sleeved shirt or jacket. It's humid in NYC, how cold can it possibly get up north?
We stopped at the Arcade on Main St. before leaving on picked up some slices and subs to eat back at the motel. Our friends had a Coachmen RV with them so we spent a lot of time sitting out there, reminiscing, drinking some Captain and Cokes, and chowing down on our lunches. The slices were pretty good, square pies, Sicilian style and the subs came dressed with lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese and dressing. Very tasty. About $3.20 for a 6-inch sub and $1.50 for a slice. The arcade had really cool old-school games like Track and Field, Pac-Man and Centipede that I used to play as a kid.
My friend Doug hiking down McCauley Mtn.
We took the $5 ski lift to the top of the mountain. It was about a 10 minute ride and the hike took about 30 minutes or so depending on how often we stopped). Some of the best views I've seen in a while. I could have stayed up here all day.
Enchanted Forest Water Safari (where the fun NEVER stops!) in the distance.
My favorite picture. Looking at this, I feel like the Adirondacks never end.
I have no idea what this flower is, but it looked beautiful.
The trail on the way down.
Doug and I relaxing in the lounge chairs made from old skis. Where are our apres skis and the bunnies?
If I remember correctly, there are eight numbered lakes that are connected and this shot is of 1st Lake looking up to 2nd and I think 3rd Lake as well.
Me and the trail signs.
The gang at the top of the mountain.
At the bottom of the lift. I don't like heights, but the views from the lift were totally worth it. Sorry, I didn't take any pics from the lift. I was so afraid I'd drop the camera.
Don't worry I took a lot of drool worthy food pics!
More to come...
