Affordable Deli Meat Slicer?

Can anyone recommend a commerical style deli meat slicer for home use. I want something a little better than a $79 Wal*mart special, but am not looking to spend $600~ on a true commerical product. Like to keep under $300 I'm looking to road my own turkey breast and slice, as good turkey is hard to find.

Bwave, If your not in a hurry, check Ebay and local auctions for any of the good brand names. With so many restaurants closing there is a lot of Ebay auctions and usually local auctions with some great prices. I have run into some excellent smoked turkey breast from a couple of different companies, although it runs around $3.65 a lb. In fact I made grilled cheese yesterday using smoked turkey breast from Sara Lee. It comes in 8 lb skin on, and is a whole muscle product. It almost looks like ham with a nice pink cast and is great with mayo or BBQ sauce. You might consider trying some, there is no waste and I like it a lot. Sara Lee premium mesquite smoked turkey breast http://www.saraleefoodser...WholeMuscleTurkey.aspx Jack

I agree with Dr, and if he likes the Sara lee turkey breast then its worth trying. I will be carving about 40-18lb Black Oak Smoked Hams from Sara lee next week for a large Christmas party. The Black Oak Ham is a great ham for sandwiches or any of your ham uses. My price is $2.30 and I bet if you bought it at a Deli it would be over $5 to $6 a pound....................The quality of a good meat slicer comes with price..Billyb

Keep your eye out at local thrift stores. Donations from businesses and even private donations of some very nice equipment happen. Often it is hardly used when it is from the private sector...because people will go out and buy a Hobart slicer to use at home and it becomes too heavy and takes up too much kitchen cabinet space to simply collect dust if not used very often. They get down to the end of the year and donate to the local thrift store because they do not want to deal with Ebay.

Check Craigslist in the business section, I see them now and then at a pretty decent price. And I agree with CCinNJ, they are fairly bulky and heavy. Also, you'll want a stable counter or table to use it on..

Most of your non USDA small meat cutters can slice and wrap. Roast off your Turkey and they should be able to offer this service for a small price.............Billyb
