Affordable (good) eats near Pikes Place Market, Seattle? Sun, 08/2/09 9:11 PM (permalink)
Although I moved to Bremerton, WA 6 months ago, money has been tight, so I've been unable to take the ferry to Seattle with my 12 year old son.  We will be visiting Pike's Place Market tomorrow, via the ferry, no car involved, so I am interested in where the good deals are.  We love Italian, sandwiches, pizza, and occasionally seafood.  Looking for under $10 per person, preferably under $8 per person, as it is so hot right now my son and I have been eating out a lot.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated:)

Pike Market is kind of a touristy area to begin with - and that doesn't usually gel with cheap prices.  I also don't think that Seattle is a particularly cheap city to begin with.  You could probably piece together some eats - but, I don't know that any seafood at the Market is in your price range.  Also, I can't say that I have ever looked for pizza and/or Italian in/near the Market, but I don't recall seeing anything like that.

However, Beecher's makes some wonderful macaroni and cheese.  It is a cheese store on the same side of the Market as the original Starbucks store (which, I guess, technically is not IN the Pike Market).  As a cheese store, they do seem to have some other items besides the mac and cheese - I just can't get passed the mac and cheese!

Another good, inexpensive option is the Crumpet Shop, which is also on the outside of the Market.  A couple of crumpets topped with some of their various selections should be in your price range, too.

it's Pike Place Public Market, not Pike's Place, Pike's Market or any other mutation..

Pike Place is the street that runs through the middle of the original market, the original Starbucks, DeLaurenti's and Bavarian meats are in the smaller part and everything else is in the larger part..

there are some inexpensive places, but all of the sit-down restaurants are pretty spendy.....

If you like mediterranean food, there is a place called Sabra Mediterranean that has sandwiches in the $7 dollar range. That doesn't leave much for a beverage, but I have to agree with the last two posters. It may be a challenge to keep it under $8 - 10. Our favorite places to eat there are The Crumpet shop, where TTM stated, will be in your price range, and The Market Grill. They have chowders, a couple of salads and grilled salmon and halibut sandwiches that are outstanding, but in the $10 -12 range. I bet if you look around, you'll be able to find something interesting to fit your needs. Have fun!

Here is the Pike Place Market website:

There is a hole-in-the-wall Chinese place on the 2nd floor down that has big steaming bowls of various ramens and chinese noodle soups that are $8 and less, exceptionally filling, and very good.

Also, if you cross the street from the market, go down a block north, then up the hill there's an alley.  Walk the alley north and theres a bunch of hidden gems tucked away in there with very decent pricing.  One I loved was a Peruvian place up on the second froor you can only get to from the alley.  Everyone has sandwich boards out advertising daily specials.
