Mayor,
I admire the way you bring your wisdom, level- headedness and diplomatic, gentlemanly ways to this web site. We need you around to keep the crazies, (Me included) on here in line. Best wishes and prayers for a positive outcome.

Al: Dr. Seafarer prescribes a daily dose of the juices from a bottle of good Bourbon to cure your ills - but maybe your doctors can supplement that cure with some of their own...
Gail and I wish you and Janet all the best  and look forward to someday again sharing a meal with you .

Cheers, John

Al, the National Shrine of the Grotto of Lourdes is on the same mountain as my home , about 1/16 of a mile away. I said a Hail Mary for you in front of the huge statue of the Blessed Mother, there are no better hands to be in than hers. There will be many Q days in your future, this I know is true. I hope some day some of that Q is mine!

Thursday update, I will meet with a Specialist in this form of Cancer at the I U Med Center in Indianapolis to complete the laproscopic activity that was started last week. So far they are saying that all can be completed wihout 'cutting' or permanent problems.  So for now things are looking up. Much will depend on the results of that tumor removal. Apparently the I U Med Center has a strong reputation for dealing with this sort of problem.
To be continued in a couple of weeks.

University hospitals are usually nothing short of amazing. Sounds like you're going to be in excellent hands, so I have confidence that this will turn out just fine. Thanks for updating us, especially considering you probably have a couple of things on your mind other than us.

Thanks to a RF friend (and Fed-Ex) we enjoyed a real morale-booster dinner last night !  G & M Seafood, in Baltimore shipped us four of their wonderful large CRABCAKES !!!  Janet made some of her great SLAW to go with them and we really had a nice dinner.
Considering the roller-coaster emotions of the week, this little symbol of good things meant a lot to us.  Thanks to our friend who's thoughtful act "made our day" !

Davy,
Yeah, We have done the Palms to Pines ride many times and the Tramway a couple of times  too.
That area (Palm Springs/Indio) is the entrance to the "Low Desert" area...much hotter  in summer and milder in Winter than our "High Desert" (70 miles NW of Palm Springs) is , mainly due to elevation. I lived at about the 4000' level just off the 15 after you cross the summit of Cajon Pass (My Mayor Domain !!)

Hope you enjoy your ride thru that area...have a date-shake for me !!!

Mellow Roast, Look up Paula Deen's recipe for the Slaw and her dressing. We use that recipe but add some Cran-Raisins and regular Raisins to it. We were out of chopped Pecans, but that is another of my favorite additions to good Slaw. I love a sweet slaw with a tinge of Apple Cidar Vinegar in the aftertaste !

Medical Note-  One of the reasons for us leaving SoCal when I retired was the reputation of the fine Medical community here in Louisville. SoCal as I recall had pretty much lost any kind of 'human touch' in the Dr./Hospital treatment relationships...in favor of the auto-mated HMO 'Take a Ticket- Take a Seat' mass-produced coverage by Kaiser and other facilities. Well today, I had an experience that reminds me of why we relocated.
My Internist (GP) had received the reports of the difficulties I went thru a couple of weeks back when the surgeon was unable to take care of the tumor he was trying to remove.  As a result he referred me to his "Jedi-Master' Surgeon up at the I U med Center in Indy for a more through treatment program (and heavier-duty equipment). He even set the appointment up for me.

When My Dr. got that info, he brought Janet and I into his office (today) and talked about what happened, and the alternatives available...one of which is to do the Indy- thing as outlined by the surgeon. He was very complete in what the outcomes could be etc.  When we decded that the proposed plan was probably the best of the choices, He called the Indy-Doctor to explain some of the quirks in my medical history..in some detail. This was stuff that my local surgeon only saw a few notes about in the condensed med-history held by the hospital....he didn't have access to the 4 inch thick file kept in my Doctors office. So My guy swapped stories about how to work me over for awhile, and faxed several reports,  like my 2 recent cat-scans etc to the master in Indy.
I write this to comment that I would never have received such excellent personal attention in one of the factory-health-care facilities back in the 'Old Country'. Janet and I are so very grateful for the care we are receiving thru this whole experience.
It is very comforting to know that someone who has his skills can help 'coordinate' this rather complex situation.
I hope any ogf you who face these type of decisions have professional help who can provide what you need to make good choices.

Mayor, THANK YOU very much for the recipe suggestion.  I can make a meal out of a good slaw and often enjoy just a plate of slaw and Westminster crackers.

On another note, you're richly blessed to have access to such caring, dedicated physicians.  It should be that way in every community.  This has to be reassuring to your family.

Thunder over Louisville is the kickoff activity for the derby Festival. It features a major Airshow sweeping up and down the Ohio River waterfront...underway right now, as a KC-10 does a low and slow refueling deployed pass as I type. We live just west of Louisville compass-wise, so the planes make their west to east passes over us as they line up on the city. I love watching , without the crowds along todays semi-flooded water front!
Ed- Thanks, A genuine tri-tip is a wonderous healer !! Thursday coming is our preliminary interaction in Indianapolis. Sort of nervous, but what the hell, we're in good company !
Gratitude to all well-wishers.
AL

I talked with AL this morning and he was excited about having such a view of the air show.  That is a wonderful event.  I have experienced it a few times here in Knoxville.  A thrilling show.

He is in very good spirits and certainly excited that his issue can be resolved without incision or surgery.  Modern medicine is here and certainly Al will benefit.  Certainly all our best is to Al.
