Is Wilford Brimley the actor who does the diabetes treatment advertisements too? That's who PaulF reminds me of.
I'm enjoying looking at these pictures; dang at the fish, you'll get a lot of fish sammiches out of that one for sure.
And OK, hide the fried little whole taters, and tell all the crabs to take cover unless nobody else wants any; I'll be up there in a minute!

The next Roadfooder to have the pleasure of exploring the Last Frontier is queenb who arrives in September. We've been emailing back and forth.....the usual questions, what'll the weather be like, what gear do I need, how does this itinerary look.....it's such a pleasure to be able to advise newcomers to this beautiful place and to lead them in the right direction with a Milepost in hand!!!

Mr. Mayor and Jan, you need to start making plans for the spring, as does Sundancer for the next Arctic migratory birding season, which also happens to be spring......another mini-Roadfood convention??? Hmmmm????

The season for Alaska mini-conventions is now closed for the summer.

queenb and I had a couple of Alaskan pale ales and lunch while looking at some of her pictures and talking about the trip. She said she never vacations twice in the same place but would like to return to Alaska again next year, earlier in the summer. Hopefully, she'll post some of her beautiful pictures here, especially the one of her halibut catch. She didn't beat out RedPatti's 114 lb. fish, but reeled in a bunch of beauties!!!

For any Roadfooders planning on a vacation next summer, queenb left behind one fish net, rubber boots and a current Milepost for you!

Our boat is out of the water, the camper is coming off the truck soon, there is snow on the mountains.......soon it will be winter. Anyone wishing to do some world-class skiing, snowboarding or snowmachining or dog mushing or relaxing next to a fireplace in a luxurious lodge while watching the Northern Lights, come to Alaska!!

You must realize that our four seasons are thus: Almost Winter, Winter, Still Winter and Construction!!
Currently we are in Almost Winter, as summer temps in the 80's quickly turn into highs in the 40's and 50's. We really have no autumn. It is in the low 30's at night. One day you come home from work and the grass is green, next morning it's covered in snow and it lasts for 5-6 months! When the temps in January get to -25 or below, we're glad we have tickets for Palm Springs or Brazil or just about anywhere where it's warm!!

I think I 'used up' their two weeks of autumn while I was up there! I had wonderful, beautiful weather the whole time, highs around 60 and lows about 40, and all the scenery was drop dead gorgeous....but the last day, when lleechef and I met at Humpy's, it poured down rain all day and was getting colder and colder; I think it was about 35 and still rainy when I left at 1 am! Folks, you've got to plan a trip to See Alaska!
Still, I'm already scheming to go back, just a few piggy bank issues I've got to see to first! After all I didn't get a chance to eat in all the recommended Roadfood places, and I didn't catch a salmon either. I don't believe in not finishing what you set out to do!
Lisa says I HAVE to post this picture of me here--but I'm not even going to try to compete with Patty's fish pic!

Here's a couple of my other favorites..

Sweet Home Alaska! What a beautiful state. My husband has spent some time there and he says without reservation that it is the most beautiful place he has yet to visit. I'm making notes on where to eat, hope we get up that way in the next couple of years....

The pictures are great. Love putting faces to names. Are there any others to look for in this forum?-Leslie
