www.mcgearys.com Not exactly traditionally Irish- but the place has character, lots of choices on tap and wings that will match anyplace in Buffalo. Their black bean chili is good too!

Beff's in Loudonville is close to Albany. In Watervliet, you have McIntyre's. Up in Saratoga (30 min north) is a new place called Irish Times. Over in Troy there is the Irish Mist and Jose Malones, which believe it or not is Irish/Mexican. You can go to the local paper www.timesunion.com and click on the restaurants link and do a search, it might come up with some other places.

Looks like McGearys in Albany has "Beef On Weck" sandwiches and Saranac Root Beer!

I went to college in Albany and I can say for certain that the best Irish pub in that city from 1984-88 was the The Washington Tavern (informally known as WT's). It was there for exactly 100 years before I got there, and it's still a class joint 20 years after I left. And now, the memories come flooding back. Man, o man, did I have fun at that place.

Hey Pigiron, I too have many a fond memory of WT's, great Turkey sandwiches and beer back in the early 80's was good, cold and cheap. I graduated in 1983..we used to go there with on Thursday nights since the drinking age had changed and they stopped serving alcohol at the Rat. For less than 10 bucks you could buy a pitcher and a sandwich....tell me where you can do that nowadays.

This is off topic, but does anyone remember Joe's Deli on Madison Ave? It was a favorite haunt when I went to RPI '67-'71.
