Ed, great report, happy to see you and the whole crew had a fun time. I'm not a chili guy but the fish, sausage and pies look right on to me. By the way, in this photo I see lisa and Michael. Who's the guy in the hat ???

Ava and I had a great time visiting with y'all. It was great to see old friends once again and to meet several new ones. The JRPfeff family, Big G, Chris from KC, KS and many more.

Ava and I had dinner with Ed Sails last year in So Calif with his lady friend. Ed was one of the earliest Rosdfooder I had met FTF. Way back in 2006.

I've been to Cincy several times and my favorite HAD been Camp Washington. It's now been bumped down a notch by Pleasant Ridge. It has become mine and Ava's favorite.

That's not me, BB. That's my fat doppelganger, and if he doesn't hurry up and lose some weight soon I'm going to have to fire the guy.

Camp Washington

Chili and spaghetti, Ava's favorite.

CW 4 way

My favorite until we ate at Pleasant Ridge.

CW Coney

Sign Museum

Jungle Jim's Wall of hot sauces.

A small sample of their available hot sauces.

Shrimp cocktail
Raw oysters

Dinner Saturday night, we went to PapaDeaux, we both wanted seafood and we got it! The place was close to where we stayed in Blue Ash. It is a large restaurant and it was packed! Tasty too.

Unfortunately for me Ava now likes raw oysters, I now have to share...darn it!

Liking oysters is one thing. You'd better hope she doesn't develop a liking for trap, skeet and/or sporting clays. Keeping her in shotshells would be much worse than having to share oysters.

By the way, Ava is delightful.

Thanks everyone, I had a great time with everyone and really enjoyed doing the pictures.

MH and LL, D'oh! We should have got the oysters at Pappadeux!

MH, I should have taken the camera to Waffle House one of the mornings. And I'll just replace the White Castles with more Crabills!

Looks and Sounds like everyone had a fine time. Ed your reporting is outstanding.
However, one piece of advice-- There are TWO Rules for entering a White Castle... (Sort of like Gibbs rules!)
   1. NEVER DO IT COMPLETELY SOBER.
   2. ONLY DO IT BETWEEN MIDNIGHT AND 5:00 AM

I've heard the same rule apply to Jack in the Box Tacos, but I've been known to eat six of those with hot sauce for lunch----and survive!

We all missed you, Al.

Great turnout, photos and text, everyone! Even though it was a chili-oriented event it's nice to see a variety of other edibles as well.

Foodbme:  TA travel centers are my favorite on the road.  It is interesting that you mention classic arcade games like Pac Man and Pong because I really miss simple games like those.  Today, all the arcade games revolve around the player slaughtering zombies or racing spaceships through various galaxies .  Too complicated for me!

Rumaki:  The sugar free cherry pie had a weak, sweet cherry flavor to it.  Therefore, you are probably correct when you say an artificial sweetener is used in these pies.  When I ordered it, I was actually hoping it would taste like cherries with no added sugar.

Wednesday April 9th (continued):
I arrived into Indianapolis at around 7:30 pm.  My first stop there was Nick's Chili Parlor which is reviewed here on the website.

The eatery is located on the Northwest side of town just South of I-65 on a busy street.  I ordered two plain chili dogs and a slice of lemon meringue pie for dessert.

Cincy 8 by dnowak15, on Flickr

Both items were quite good.  The taste of the chili was closer to the style seen in Cincinnati parlors rather than the traditional stuff.  The pie had a strong lemon flavor and tasted fresh.  Overall, I give Nick's a B- grade.  The food will not blow you away, but it is worth a stop if your taste buds are asking for chili.

After finishing my meal, I took a 30 minute power nap in my car while parked at the restaurant.  I asked an employee at Nick's if this would be okay and he laughingly said yes to my odd request.

My second stop in the city was the Mug-N-Bun Drive-In; located near the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

I apologize in advance for the subpar photos.  My camera just refuses to take decent pictures under low light conditions.  I arrived here at about 8:45 and I am assuming the place closes at 9 since the employees were already cleaning the place for the night.  The server was friendly and she did not rush me at all.

Being the hot dog whore that I am, I ordered a regular with mustard, ketchup, and relish as well as a corn dog.

Cincy 12 by dnowak15, on Flickr

Both dogs were forgettable, but luckily I purchased a gallon of their root beer to take back to Chicago.  That stuff was world class!  I never took a picture of the root beer because I foolishly decided to share it with friends after coming home from Cincinnati.  The gallon disappeared quickly and everyone who tasted it agreed that it was outstanding.  I give the Mug-N-Bun a B grade mostly for the atmosphere and the root beer.

From here, I hopped onto I-74 toward Cincinnati and arrived in Blue Ash at around 11:00 pm.  The next day I was meeting up with the ChiTownDiner for a full day of Roadfooding.

Much more to come...

She's right! Mike S. kept all the oysters in Cincinnati for himself---at least in Mobile, we all got some oysters!
