A good buddy of mine used to run a concession trailer at festivals all over the east coast selling "Gator Taters". There was no actual gator invloved. A "gator tater" was just his name for a ribboned potato, deep fried and dusted with a choice of cajun spices, and served on a plate much like a funnel cake. At $4 a plate for what amounted to one half a potato plus about $.02 worth of spices, he made a killing.

I am surprised how bad this idea went over. I'm from the north, have lived in Florida 3 years, and I think gator is really good.

I'll have one Gator with shrooms, extra onion and wiz please. I used to live in Philly and it just might work as long as you get down by Penn's Landing or somewhere on South Street. Penn Station would be a bust.

I love finding Gator down here in Arkansas, though not many businesses seem to profit or make it still, and close to the rajun cajun area! I don't know about Philly though, it's to me the cheesesteak capital lol! Good luck however, shall you succeed.

You know. I have seen this type of food trailer before. ITS COMMON in the south at fairs and carnivals. Now, I have only ate Gator like 8 or nine times. I just never had a liking for it. UNLESS you can get the true "lump" meat. This has none of the small bones in it. I would not think a daily meal would be made with this. I think its more a fair/event market. Florida and Louisiana both serve gator.

Now, I have eat both Gator and rattle snake. The snake I have ate has only Been at the Big Texan in Amarillo. (Only place I have been able to get my truck into). The snake always has way to many bones in it. The gator I think is ok. Only had it like 8-9 times. Just I think it is a fair/event item. quote:Originally posted by CajunKing quote:Originally posted by Michael Hoffman Gee, it always tastes like rattlesnake to me. I agree, it tastes like rattler. I have eaten both and love it when I can get it. I have a friend in Earth, TX he sends me rattler twice a year. Back to the OP I don't think a gator stand in Philly would fly. Even in FL and LA it more a novelty item than a standard. I don't think a gator cheese steak would work either. Gator cooks more like chicken than beef, and beef makes a better cheese steak. The Gator balls can be REALLY good.
