Altnaveigh, Storrs, CT

My wife and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary at the Altnaveigh in Storrs, CT.  The food is a bit pricey but great.

We started with
Scallops Wrapped in Bacon
Three tender sea scallops wrapped in smoky bacon, char-grilled, and served with a coconut cream sauce and honey drizzle.

My wife had the
Arugula & Pear Salad
Arugula greens tossed in a red wine vinaigrette with a hint of cracked pepper.  Served with sautéed pears, candied almonds and shaved Pecorino Romano Cheese and Prosciutto ham.  Accompanied with a toasted French bread crust topped with balsamic-simmered onions and Boursin cheese

I had the
Grilled Hearts of Romaine Caesar Salad
Crispy Romaine heart wrapped with Prosciutto ham, then gently grilled over an open flame.  Topped with toasted pine nuts, crumbled Gorgonzola cheese and Caesar dressing.  Served with toasted garlic rounds.

For entrees

Denise had the
Tournedos of Pork Apple Harvest Style
Two center-cut pork loins wrapped in bacon then grilled over an open flame.  Topped with phyllo crowns filled with caramelized Macintosh apples, streusel toppings and candied almonds.  Finished with a reduced apple cider au jus.

I dined on
Veal Scaloppini ala Francaise
Tender veal cutlets dipped in egg and sautéed in sweet butter, white wine, lemon, chopped tomatoes, herbs and a touch of cream. Served with French bread filled with Brie cheese.

We finished with dessert and coffee.

For a special dinner,  I strongly recommend the Altnaveigh Inn.

While I am really interested in trying out this place (UCONN alumni), I dont think $30-$34 entrees qualifies as "roadfood".  The menu does look delicious though.

Sounds like a great meal!  Happy anniversary, too.

I've got to find some place that serves grilled caesar salad.  I've been hearing about it a lot, lately.

Happy anniversary!  This place is in my original RF book, (1977!)  So glad to hear that it is still around, and that you enjoyed your meal...

I agree that it is not typical roadfood but the food was so good that I feel justified in passing the information on to people who enjoy food.  By the way, we finished the leftovers tonight to dinner.  Having 2 meals for the price of 1 reduces the cost.

Hey..............Roadfood does not always have to be "cheap and cheerful".  I  think that this is a wonderful  Roadfood destination.  I have been there and  the  food is great.

Happy  Anniversary to you and your wife.

They had a Shrimp Bisque for the soup that day but neither of us tried it.
