Amazing Hot Dogs Super Hero Challenge

While at Amazing Hot Dogs, Mom and I witnessed the 11th winner of their Super Hero Challenge. The challenge has been offered for over 3 years, since their first store.

It looks like it 's not that hard to do, but we stayed for the results. The challengers name was Billy Freyberger from Bridgewater-Raritan, NJ

This plus an large order of fries and at least one drink to be finished with in one hour.

is the challenge.

Billy gets started looking strong

Billy ate the first four hot dogs in under twenty minutes, He's looking good.

Then came the last two dogs

the picture will tell you how he is doing.

With eight minutes to go, it looked like the fries weren't going to make it. Looked like a hiccup and with more to follow, but his trusted sidekick talked him back to finish. I think he said something like do you want to pay for all the food and then come for another challenge with only a few mouthfuls left.

He tucked it in and

with two minutes to go his last mouthful.

His prize is:
1. Bragging rights
2. Tee shirt
3. He don't have to pay for the food
4. To go up on the trophy board

There was added pressure from me, because I told Billy if he wins he'll be on a few websites Roadfood, TheGourmetChiliDog, etc. I also told him if he fails, he'll still be mentioned. NO PRESSURE RIGHT Great job Billy

Hope all enjoys

I liked your "play-by-play" announcing, John.

What is the stringy white stuff on the non-mac-and-cheese hot dogs? Are the dogs deep-fried?

Benzee, Agree! In my younger dazes, this would be considered a warm-up. One drink. Ha, maybe one six-pack.

Hey nice to have ya back. Did you get to eat at Chiliman's?

The topping on the 4 hot dogs were pizza dogs. Pizza sauce and Mozzerella cheese.

    Thanks John!

    Right place, right time.

I am curious to know what it costs, if you do not "win" the challenge?

My sister was the undisputed champion of the cherry pie eating contests (on Presidents Day) at the Staten Island Mall, in the late 70's. No hands allowed. She won a savings bond, every year. I never entered, because she was brutal, and I have OCD. I would have been scrubbing my face, until Memorial Day.

Honestly, that doesn't look like much of a challenge. I suspect fourteen of the sixteen people where I work could do it. I had a gastric bypass, and one of the girls might not cross the finish line.

The dogs are 1/4 pounders and the rolls are at least 1 1/2 times the volumn.
They fit the hot dog. The other thing I noticed was you get a large fry filled about
3 inch high. It did look like it should be easy, but I seen Billy slow down quite a bit after
    the fourth hot dog.

I guess its over $30.00 for the challenge, extra pressure

Your right it don't look like much. I don't know how many to the pound nathans dogs are,
but Amazing is 4 to the pound and there is a lot of bread and fries.

well done with the play by play. Just to let you all know Billy's brother was in yesterday, although Billy did not move at all Friday, he is feeling well and did go to work yesterday. Good thing for that, at least there are no short term effects on Billy The Kid. Thanks for posting on roadfood, it is always greatly appreciated, and I am looking forward to the 23rd to meeting all the other roadfooders. and sampling your chili..see you soon

Depending on what you are determines the cost, but roughly somewhere between$28-$34..The problem is people tend to wait till the end to eat the fries..big big mistake...

those are big dogs. i was able to get down a couple but combined with the rolls plus fries! you really have to have some desire. in a somewhat related note, those guys that eat the coney island ones by getting them soggy first are wusses imho though. I hope that i am not working on the 23rd but odds are i will be.

HAHAHA hahaha! Nice write up and play by play John Sagi!

In my late teen and early 20's I might have been a contender, but there's no way I could do that now. I'd be lucky to finish the second dog with fries and a drink.

And a long distance "Grats!" to Billy!
