Ambulance Girl by Jane Stern.....a movie?

On my way to work today, I saw an ad on the side of a bus for a new movie titled, "Ambulance Girl" starring Kathy Bates. Is this based on the book by Roadfood's Jane Stern?

Unless it gets changed, I believe it will premier on the Lifetime Channel at 9 PM on Monday, September 12th.

Don't forget that Ambulance Girl based on Jane Stern's wonderful book is going to be on Lifetime TV tomorrow (Monday-Sept. 12) night at 9:00. As mentioned before on this board, the part of Jane is being played by Kathy Bates. Should be interesting! Don't forget to tape it if you can't watch!

I watched Ambulance Girl last night and found it to be quite interesting. It did seem, however, to be a little different from the book which I thoroughly enjoyed. I'll have to reread the book to see. I love Kathy Bates and feel that, even though she and Jane do not look at all alike, she was a good choice to play this part. It was supposed to take place here in CT and it was fun to check out the scenery. Does anybody know where it was actually shot?

I missed the show and I wish I had seen it. Will it be on again?

Halifax is a wonderful place. I have been there several times. I really enjoy Nova Scotia.

Michael, were you and Jane there when they shot the movie?

Mrs. Bushie and I watched it. Man, that Michael Stern is quite a stud!!

Mrs. Bushie LOVED it. She couldn't stop laughing during all of Jane's "trials" at learning EMT skills.

It is a good and enjoyable movie. Seemed to be a somewhat "chick-ized" version of the book, but it was Lifetime, after all.

Michael.......thank you so much for letting us know where the movie was shot. I have also been to Halifax several times and just love it there. I thought that your part, played by Robin Thomas, was very well cast. Although he doesn't look like you he is as handsome as you are. Perhaps the reason that Bushie thought that this movie was "chick-ized" is because Kathy Bates also directed it. She is very talented. I'm so glad that I taped it as I will want to watch it again after I reread the book. Michael, is Jane still an EMT in your hometown? I always thought that I might like to be one (and I even studied Medical Assisting for many years) but after reading Jane's book I decided against it. It is a much too important job for a 58 year old retired woman with a bad back to tackle!

I missed the movie (so far), but just loved Jane's book. Within little less than 24 hours I read it straight through, then gave it to my partner and he read it straight through. It has that rare quality of being funny and yet quite serious.

Saw the movie last night. I was hoping there would be a 30 minute scene shot in silence of M and J just eating but it was not to be. Not sure how much of it was based on the 'novel' vs. reality. Something tells me Michael is not as much of a curmudgeon as portrayed, but he made the right choice in the end. I imagine both of them to be funnier and more colourful, but it was a candid account which took guts to reveal. Best line was Jane's describing an airplane as an "MRI machine with wings." Love it.

I missed it last night as I had to go to FFA meeting (y'all come on out to the Peace Officers BBQ cook off this weekend and I'll sell you a plate! )

I have ordered the book and want to read it first, before watching the movie.

Bushie - you sound like my husband and his mocking of the "Lifeline" channel, as he calls it. BUT - he got busted! I took my daughter out one Saturday for school shopping and when I came home, I caught him watching "Sybil". Gotcha!

Congratulations to Ms. Jane. I will fix her a plate for free!

The movie was FABULOUS. Loved the portayal of the characters. It is great to get a feel for two great personalities. I too would have enjoyed seeing more "food" scenes. The story was heart warming and so true of so many couples I have known. It was great to see the working relationship of a couple I have followed through the years in print. Thanks Jane and Michael for a wonderful evening.

I watched the movie, and I really truly enjoyed it. I had already read the book twice, and I have to admire Kathy Bates's treatment of it. I think she stayed remarkably close to the book, even unto certain lines of dialogue. Sure, there were some differences, but I think that she had respect for the property itself and obviously knew it intimately to treat it as she did.

I hope Jane and Michael were as pleased as I was. I have even more admiration for the two of them now -- I watched it with my sister, and even though I knew how it ended, I was agonizing over the thought of the breaking up as my sister was wailing over it.

Maybe it got sugared up a little at the end, but who cares! It was just wonderful!

I’m like you, Lone Star, I like to read the book before the movie. This time I'll have to do it in reverse. I thought the movie to be both witty and inspiring on many levels. Jane had such courage to overcome her fears and both as a couple showed how love can overcome all obstacles. They did not just quit and give up like so many couples do. The only thing was- it seemed too personal !!-like I shouldn't know this or something- at times I wanted to cover my ears and start singing the alphabet really loud – lol… Although I've never met the Sterns they still seem like friends after reading their books and reviews. Geez, many of my "real life" friends would never admit to problems. That took alot of guts and I am sure that their story will inspire many people.

There have been a few threads on this sbject and I think I commented on one of the other ones. I also thought the movie was well done, and after seeing Michael's smiling face in so many photos, was surprised to see him portrayed as a bearded, somewhat grouchy person.

I had to chuckle at Jane's nervousness about taking her first calls. When I did my EMT training years ago at a local volunteer ambulance, there was a lengthy procedure for working on the rig, which included riding along as a second medic on at least 10 calls with a senior medic before being approved to go solo. I felt a little nervous on my first solo call, and my driver told me not to worry, that I wouldn;t be there if I hadn't already proved myself. I'm sure Jane's experience was greatly abbreviated for times sake in the movie.

My wife saw the movie and sincerely enjoyed it. She did not even know that it pertains to roadfood until it was mentioned.

Attached is a website that pertains to the move from Lifetime. I hope it is not already posted. I did not see it if it was.
