American version of Aero chocolate bar Wed, 06/8/05 3:33 PM (permalink)
I love the Aero bars sold in the UK and in British groceries in the US. I remember something very similar being sold in the US when I was a small child. I believe it ws made by Nestle. Does anyone remember this or what it was called?

The only Aero Bars with which I was familiar are for bicycles. However, I did find this: http://www.candydirect.com/bars/Aero-Bars.html

I know what you are talking about, but can't for the life of me remember what it was called. Here's a place in MA though you can order them from. http://www.britishdelights.com/nestles.htm

I remember them too but have always puzzled over the name. The American version was my Moms favorite and she would have to hide them from the rest of the family. My wife is from England and so we always have Aero bars around the house.

I'd be curious to hear what this bar is/was, because I don't remember an American equivalent to the Aero bar. I grew up on the Canadian border, and used to get Aero bars in Canada as a kid. They are and were one of my very favorites.

That looks a lot like the old Choco-Lite to me, just shaped a little different (Choco-Lite was longer, narrower and thicker, if memory serves). But the description on the label of the Aero sounds just like Choco-Lite.

It was Choco Lite. I found pics of the wrapper on-line and that is exactly what I remember. Thanks jvsmom! Now my girlfriend and I can stop wracking our brains. I wish they'd re-introduce them. They were wonderful.

I remember eating candy like this myself, but for a short period of time. I think I was a young teenager when I ate those. I'm trying to remember that name Choco-Lite and it really didn't ring a bell with me, whereas the Aero really did. Which seems strange if it's a British candy now...I grew up in Philadelphia.

I'm pretty good at finding images online, but was unable to come up with the image (under either name and different spellings) that ctfrasier mentioned. Do you have a link?? Feel free to email me with it or the image, because now this is going to bother me.

Here's the link with a photo of the Choco Lite wrapper. Aero is British but some American candy stores do carry it but they're $2 and up per bar here in the states.

A few years ago when we were in England i bought Orange Aero bars, can't find the orange ones any more. I have found some of the British candy bars at the local Big Y food store, in the import section. I remember getting the Big Kit Kat bar in England a year or so before it was sold in the US. When in a foreign country we always go to the grocery store to buy our gifts for friends. It's always fun to try and frgure out what the package says.

Don't know what the Aero bars were called in the States but here in Japan they are called "Vessel in the Fog", which just breaks me up.

I've see Aeroes on sale recently in Manhattan (NYC) in regular and mint flavors.

I've been pretty successful at finding European consumer candy bars at Cost Plus World Market (http://www.worldmarket.com/index.htm). They're in the west and midwest, so this doesn't help everyone.

In Manhattan I've found that upscale grocers also carry a lot of European bars. Most recently I found them at Garden of Eden.

The plain is a little too fudgy for me, but the mint is great.
