Michael: Not much to argue about here. Your choices are stellar and I took note of your remark regarding cheesesteaks, etc. and how they should have their own list.

Beef sandwiches probably should be broken out to become its own category (beef on weck, Italian beef, French dip, wet beef, beef Manhattan, hot beef, etc.), as should the sandwiches of New Orleans!

You mean to say there's a place in Maine that offers real lobster rolls, not those silly lobster salads on a bun?

So many great choices, too close to lunch time. Michael, you are really putting my appetite into overdrive. Here come the calories !!! Yes, certain categories deserve their own best 10, but I'll settle for a Chicago beef or French dip instead of beef on a wick any day. They're all equally good and yummy in my book.

from the Maine Diner menu: THE DALE ARNOLD $ 13.95 ...This is our famous Hot Lobster Roll. Fresh lobster meat is heated and served in a grilled roll with a side of drawn butter. Dale, of WEEI Sports Radio in Boston, regularly orders this unique version of a Maine Lobster Roll. Dale is the voice of the Boston Bruins on NESN (New England Sports Network), and a graduate of Bowdoin College. He used to be the voice of the New Jersey Devils. He has known the Henrys for years. How close was Red's Eats lobster roll in Wiscassett to making the list? DaveM

That's why I'd usually eat three of them, along with half a dozen hot dogs, an order of fried clams, a dozen raw clams and a pineapple drink or birch beer.

Ok, Horowitz's Deli in Cary NC at McGregor Downs has a corned beef sandwich which IMHO is the best in the Triangle. It is piled super high and the rye bread is always soft on the outside and crusty on the outside. $7.00 plus tax for a sandwich for 2 is well worth it.

OHHHHH, the Maine Diner, what a place!! And ,of course, they are correct about the lobster rolls....The Henry boys know all about making eating in Maine a joyous experience....so, sit down, breath in the wet flannel amid swirling snow, make a friend and eat

You'll have to add the monster "Special" sub at Amighetti's in St. Louis when the list expands to the top 20.

Michael, you have not lived until you have stood in line at The Clam Shack in Kennebunkport and have eaten a lobster roll there......huge chunks of lobster and hot dripping butter. It does not get any better!

Here's a poor picture (because it doesn't show the butter glistening), but chezkatie is right: Clam Shack lobster rolls are stupendous.

I only have Jersey Mike's to tide me over...but I would say my favorite sammich is a big greasy Western Mass. grinder from either The Country Store in Westfield MA or The Bridge Store in Huntington Mass. Lynne

I've eaten at both those Nassau County joints and in my opinion they both come up wayyyyyy short. I liked Rueven's better than Regal, but neither are in the same universe as Katz's.
