I am sorry that the lady's life ended like that but you reap what you sow.  A great jazzy voice when she was straight though.

What a shame, we really liked her voice but not her lifestyle. Interesting that she was 27 as was Jim Morrison and Janice Joplin. Great musical careers cut way  too short. 

Sometimes you make your own destiny.  Sad.

I was so hoping she could get it together and have a long, industrious career. She is now free from the demons that plagued her. RIP.

Would have grown to become a great jazz vocalist. 27 must be a tough age for musicians - Kurt Cobain, Robert Johnson, "Pigpen" McKernan(Greatful Dead), Brian Jones (Rolling Stones) are some of the others that I can think of. There is even a 27 Club - of which Amy Winehouse is now an unfortunate member.
 

 Another one for the 27 Club.....Jimi Hendrix.  Amy had a great voice.  I also miss Eva Cassidy who died at age 33 from cancer.  She sang like a songbird, just lovely.

Janis Joplin, Billie holiday, now Amy Whitehouse. The horrible power of drugs takes away another great voice.

Too bad. she was the real deal.

seriously though, there is a noticeable spike in performer deaths at age 27......

They all tried. They tried publicly, they tried privately. I mean, this is a woman who wrote a song about resisting attempts to help her: "They tried to make me go to rehab, I said, no, no, no...."
 
So sad.
 
edit: That's what I get for posting before reading the thread to the end, I jump in with what's already been said. If you poke around, there's quite a bit about how she defied and subverted every attempt to help her. It's what addicts do, unfortunately.
