An Ode to Chicken Riggies

I just received this YouTube video link in my Facebook newsfeed from a fellow native of Rome, NY.  For those that have never heard of them, Chicken Riggies are a Central NY dish found on the menus of most Italian restaurants in the Rome/Utica area.
Here's the video:  http://www.youtube.com/wa...c&feature=youtu.be (featuring some of the restaurants and footage from my hometown)
And my RF review of Teddy's Restaurant, know for their Riggies:  http://www.roadfood.com/R...4334/teddys-restaurant

Enjoy!

I had the pleasure of eating at Teddy's back in May and enjoyed the chicken riggies.

How can you not love a Teddy Roosevelt themed restaurant that serves homemade pie?

Brad - They are either sweet or hot peppers (depends on the recipe and the chef)

SC and CK, those green pieces are indeed green bell peppers.  The one dark, ridge-cut piece on the left is a hot pepper and boy is it hot!

Do they always have mushrooms? I ask because I'm allergic to mushrooms.

Every version I've seen has mushrooms.  If you're ever looking to order it in a restaurant you could ask them to leave them out.  Not sure if each dish is made to order so that would be a good question to ask as well as they might just pick out the mushrooms.

I'd really like to try the dish. Everything sounds, and looks, so great. But, as I said, I'm allergic to mushrooms. Dammit!
