My great-grandfather had a blue heeler named "Millie" who was just about as old as he was . When I was small, the only livestock they kept was an old milk cow. Every afternoon about 4 o'clock, Millie knew she was going to be sent to "round up" the cow for the evening.

She always arrived early and sat facing the house, staring at the porch. My great-grandfather would come out the door, stretch, walk up and down, roll a cigarette etc...all the while Millie never took her eyes off of him. By the time the old girl was fairly vibrating with anticipation, he would point with his right hand, and that dog was gone in a cloud of dust.

    Good dog!

I think this whole thread has gotten out of hand and should be closed or at least moved in to Misc. "non-food" area, etc. I do not think the Road Food website should be used to make political statements or personal bashings regarding opinions of what one thinks about PETA or similar organizations. Everyone has their own views on the subject. Let's leave it at that.

If you can kill it, you can grill it. Mate 'em and plate 'em, that's what I say.

Years ago, I worked at a place in downtown San Francisco where we'd hear the PETA members chanting, "Fur is dead" over and over again through our open windows. It isn't safe to wear a fur coat here. These children seem always have their paint at the ready but never the cash to reimburse the victims of their property crime. The definition of an adult is accepting the consequence of one's actions, so the perpetrators really are children.

There is clear evidence that humans have been omnivores (we eat everything) throughout our evolution. When someone tells you that they can't eat meat or milk because an animal suffered pain to get the food to you, remind them of the simple fact that we know plants, too, experience pain. Since all food on earth is made by plants, that leaves nothing whatosever to eat. Sorry, your salad experienced pain in being harvested. Enjoy your water, and pass me the meatloaf, thank you.

I believe it is the Lamb and Flag in London that is nicknamed the Bucket of Blood because John Dryden was almost beaten to death one fateful evening. I did not know PETA was so literary in its refrences. As I recall thay had a very good ploughman's platter, but no fried chicken, though.

Aw come on now! its fake blood!

Seriously though, the fact that they are handing it to kids is crazy. But just as much as I want Howard Stern to continue broadcasting, I have to support thier right to pass these things out. If people want them, then fine. I just hope they dont shove them at kids.

The only thing I can see is if the educate them on the fact that KFC is crappy fried chicken and they need to find better. I can start PEFC. People for Excellent Fried Chicken.

How do you feel about PETA finacially supporting terrorists who burn buildings and blow up laboratories? I ask, because PETA has been doing just that.

And how do you feel about the head of PETA asking Palestinian terrorists to stop using animals when they explode bombs and kill innocent women and children in Israel? Note that she did not, in her letter to Yassir Arafat, ask that they stop killing innocent people, just donkeys.

Mr.Hoffman, I have no hostility for you or your views on this topic. I will respectfully say that the group that you refer to as "blowing up buildings" and labs is ALF(Animal Liberation Front). PETA does not condone or support their actions, though like any group, I'm sure some PETA members may agree with some of their actions. Most PETA members, like me, do not.

To be honest, I never even heard those comments and cannot vouch for them or defend them. I will say that getting the Israeli-Palestinian conflict involved here is a bit of a reach though. I thought Arafat died several years ago. I'm just a simple Southern Methodist that feels that we are the Shepherds of all our creatures and should treat them with dignity. And I also care deeply about all the deaths of innocent Israelis and Palestinians in the Middle East. It's my experience with all my Christian and Jewish friends that respect for life, both animal and human, is usually synonymous. Apologies if you disagree--we both are entitled to our opinions.

As to PETA....hooray for working to stop animal cruelty such as what is happening in pet stores. But you lose most americans when you go overboard. And your dishonesty. Yes, dishonesty. jdjd13, you wrote "We also care about livestock being slaughtered in pain;" why do you make such statements when it's a basic fact that PETA would never accept the killing of animals for food in any manner?

"Dishonesty"? PETA advocates the ETHICAL treatment of God's creatures, even in slaughter. Not all PETA members are vegetarians--many meat eaters join because they care about animal welfare in general. I eat meat, am from a family of hunters, and have a grandfather that owns a meatpacking plant in South Georgia. I joined mainly because I am involved in dog rescue and foster homes for discarded pets.

And you only marginalize yourselves when you compare the plight of chickens to what the jews went through in concentration camps.

What do Jews in concentration camps have to do with this? I have heard anti-PETA zealouts make that analogy, but have never heard it from PETA. Please cite your source.

I just googled"chicken holocaust" and came up with 875 hits on PETA and its chicken holocaust campaign. A number of PETA spokespeople have made this vile and disgusting comparison and are still making it today. Just look at the record.
